Help Help! Warning!! A custom OS can cause critical problems...

Its all got to do with the volume down key, its stuck in and you cant get it out with your fingers. All i did was grab a sharp knife from the kitchen, wedged the volume key out a little bit and then moulded it back into place. And then when i restarted my phone it was all good, and my volume down key was working again.[/

Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! I stupidly used my phone as a hammer to loosen the cap on a bottle of Gatorade after a run. Woke up the next morning to this lovely warning message and a locked phone. Luckily found this forum and your post and check my volume key. Sure enough it was dented in, so I took kitchen knife and popped it out and Voila! a working phone!! It's a little dinged up on the side, but fully functional. Another lesson learned. Thanks!!!

I'm new to the forum, and I just started having this problem last night with my Galaxy S4. My searching for solutions led me here. My issues are exactly as described here; phone won't start, can't boot it into safe mode, etc. When I try, I get that custom os warning screen. However, none of my keys are stuck. They all click, and seemingly do what they're supposed to, except that the phone isn't turning on. It gets to the Galaxy s4 screen and only sits there for a second, before going to black. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're absolutely sure your buttons aren't stuck, then I can think of two other possibilities. First your hardware volume button is broken and shorting the vol. up switch. That would require replacement. The other thing it might be is a corruption of your internal memory so the phone can't find the system or recovery partitions. While this might be reparable through flashing, it may also indicate a failure of the memory itself.

Here's a suggestion in dexterity. Remove the battery and hold in your Power button for 25-30 seconds to ensure there is no residual current left.
Refit your battery and cover. Now the tricky part - hold the VOLUME up button and the Power button and connect your battery charger to the phone - ALL at once!
This should start the phone as I have used this a couple of times with dead S4's.

Jarnasaxa,
I have just had a mess around with my phone and found that the reason it keeps rebooting into the warning mode is that the volume button is bent and is simulating a 'hold down' function everytime i reboot. I have just straightened the utton (as much as i can) tried to reboot and after a full reboot of my phone (a picture of a dead android came onto my screen for a moment) my phone is up and running again!

Maybe you could have a look to see whether your volume, home or restart buttons are stuck?

good luck
I know this thread is old but ... I'll,try any ways!
I just bought a galaxy s5 and it keeps restarting itself. I've updated it as much as it will update, I've cleared the cache and it won't stop! I pushed the home button, - and power button and the power button and it said OS update would be critical. It hasn't showed it since but it's still restarting

I've been reading a lot of problems with those J3 devices, even when the stock FW was reinstalled.. This device model may be a bad lemon. I know it sucks but it may be time to switch a device that isn't so prone to issues and has a lot more great customs (that work properly) to offer. I've been building for the Moto E4 Plus and it's been phenomenal, plus the battery goes about 3 days on a charge
