Help! Whats happened

I have had my desire for one year no, bought from carphone warehouse and on Android 2.2 and it has been working fine.

Then today I was playing around with the settings and had a look at "language and keyboard". It said my locale was English (UK). I then selected this to see what other languages were available and it presented my with English, French, German, Spanish. I pressed the back key and suddenly my local changed to English (israel)!!!

I went back in and selected English but it just keeps the Israel locale setting.

What's worse is the the keyboard dictionary has changed to be US. And now when I type organization .... you see what I mean.

What has happened? Why have my UK settings suddenly disappeared and how do I get them back?

Any help appreciated.

This is what is confusing me. I have no such option. When you list the languages available it just says English. When you select that it displays English (israel). There is no option to pick anything else.
 
Is it definitely a UK desire?

I cant think of anything else except backing up what you can using Mybackup trial off the market and doing a factory reset

Definately a Uk Desire - unbranded and unrooted. It did updgrade to 2.2 but that was last year. What I don't get was that has been on English (UK) setting all the time i have had it and now that ability has disappeared completely.

What can cause locales to disappear?

A rogue app?
 
I don't think all keyboards share the same user dictionary, so can't you install another keyboard for the time being?
