Help Help with boot sound and animation

Im trying to change the default boot sound and boot animation and I don't want to keep it on silent or vibrate and I also need help rooting my HTC EVO V 4G
 
To change the boot sound or animation, you need root. You can, however, disable the boot sound if it annoys you by using an app called Silent Boot in the market.

What's confusing you about obtaining root?
 
yeah, you need to be able to connect to the phone in order to unlock the bootloader. with the bootloader locked, you can't flash a recovery or ROM onto the phone at all. this phone requires you to flash either superuser itself or a ROM that is preloaded with superuser. i did the latter. i followed the instructions and it was fine. just looks daunting, but it's not really that hard.
