Root help with brightness settings on cyanogenmod 6.1 RC3

I flashed cyanogenmod 6.1 RC3 and I love it so far. There are tons of brightness settings, but since they are not in layman's terms I do not understand what any of it does. I was going to just play around with it and see what happens but there are so many things to change I didn't think that trial and error was going to be very productive on figuring it out. I've searched for some help but it's pretty fragmented and alot of it is old. I was wondering if someone could explain what these settings do or point me in the right direction where I can learn to change this stuff to get the best screen brightness for me. thanks in advance
