Root Help with captivate trouble

i recently rooted my phone and had installed 2 different OS by the names of Cognition, and Axura. when i put Axura on i noticed my battery life was sigifigantly lower. last night i tried to switch back to a backup of froyo i had also put on and now when it starts it gets stuck on "galaxy S GT-i9000 screen" my first thought was to Odin it but when i plug it in to my PC and go to device manager it shows it as not a "gadget serial" even with all the drivers installed and samsung kies. please help i have no further idea what to do.

Are you trying to use one-click Odin to go back to "stock"?

switching to a backup from a rom will not work. you need to be running stock froyo and then run the backup if you want it to work. backups do not restore the kernel and modem etc, so youre in a soft brick. youll need to odin back to stock, this is why odin is always recommended before any flash

yes i am trying to flash back stock with odin the only problem is it wont recognize the phone when its in download mode on the PC. so odin doesn't detect it.

have you installed the drivers yet? and also make sure you open odin before you plug your phone in

yes i should make sure that they are up to date, but it has only been a month since i last flashed with odin. and it seems like i always have trouble connecting to my PC's

are you using the cable that came with the phone? alot of people had problems with other cables they bought from att that were only charge cables and wouldnt transfer data, therefore odin wouldnt work for them
