I think there may be something wrong with your data plan. For Google to be able to register your phone it must be able to connect with google's servers.

Make sure you have an active sim with a data plan, or are connected to a Wifi connection when you do this.

Sorry Im very new to this Using a T mobile sim (UK) and have set up data use for this sim and the phone is always connected with WiFi while at home.
the phone seems to randomly request google signin when coming out of standy or switching to internet , at present my google home screen shows i am signed in but when you least expect it up pops the black screen with google sign in request and it makes no difference to what you try and do you cannot sign in or create a new account, yes you can just ignore the screen and press the back button and all is well but there must be a way to turn this request page OFF

Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync > make sure that both Background data and Auto-sync are checked.

Then, under Manage accounts (same screen as above), make sure there's an entry for Google with your gmail address and that the button on the right is green.

Thanks notebook there was no entry for Google , so I have done this so I hope that solves the problem , I did not want a gmail account but it seems it will not let you run without one if it solved problem no harm done. :D

I don't think it's mandatory to have a Google account to use Android, but you need to know which apps/widgets require one to work so that you know which to avoid using.

After you've set the Google account up on your phone, you can try to uncheck all the features it syncs with.

Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > Google > Data and synchronization > uncheck any (or all) that you don't require. If you uncheck them all this will grey out Google on the previous page.

You also have the option of removing the account. You might want to do that to see what happens, although if you have a widget that looks to Google to sync with, like calendar, contacts or apps that need updating from Android Market, then you may find yourself back at square one. It may be worth a go once you know which apps/widgets require Google, then you can set them to not sync with Google or use alternatives.

it is mandatory to have a gmail or google account is you want access to google services and the Android Market.

Once again thanks Guys this is my 1st andriod Phone, and its a lot to take in and understand, I dont intend to use the gmail but if it keeps other apps Happy i'll just leave it I may try and Uncheck the sync boxes and see what happens , I must say I like my DesireS and it seems to do everything I need and more never been an apple fan, and this Desires Sim free at half the price of a simfree Iphone you can't go wrong, not to impressed with battery life but that seems to be phones these days
