Root help with huawei ascend fm 2.1

Id just like some help "upgrading" my cousins ascend, I've done some research and found problems regarding the fm 2.1and also heard trouble on how to upgrade it. I did read that installing the cm7 rom in it updates it too, is that true? If not can someone help me upgrade and what not? TIA

if its a metro phone you can update straight from the website.

How? I'm not familiar with its website?

go to metropcs.com, on the right you will see a tab that says DOWNLOADS, click it, then on the right side (orange portion) click apps, it in a purple box, find the phone(top row second one from the left) the link will be right beneath the phone, there it will give you directions on what to do.
