Root Help with restoring nandroid.

I have a question about changing roms. I would like to flash back to CM7 02-02. I currently have CM9 but it drains my battery way to quick. I had it fully charged and 10 minutes off the charger and Im already down to 97%. I made a Nandroid Back of CM7 before I did a complete wipe and installed CM9. Do I do another complete wipe and then do the Nandroid Backup of CM7 I made? Also, does Nandroid Backup install all the apps I had too?? Thanks for your feedback.

You can just select the restore option in CWM. You don't need to wipe anything. Yes it included apps in the backup so they will get restored.

Ok, so I only do a full wipe then when Im flashing a rom then? So, flashing a rom and restoring a nandroid backup are way two different things then?? When I restore this backup, it had gapps and google voice voice, I take it those will be restore too then?? Thanks for your feedback.

A nandroid is like an image copy of the hard drive. It will put things back in the exact state they were when you made it.
I believe it wipes things for you when you restore it, so you don't need to worry about that.

Ok, thanks. As I do this more (flashing roms and restoring), I am getting more comfortable with it.:)
Just in case, Im also doing a nandroid backup of CM9, in case I want to go back.

Just to verify, but, when restoring and flashing roms, it doesnt touch the files on the sd card then??

Right. Flashing a ROM doesn't mess with the sd card either.

I would recommend that. That way you can restore the backup and flash a new build over it without dealing with wiping (at least usually) in the future.

I am trying to do a restore, but when Im in CWM and I click on restore, it gives me one option of the file, which is an older file backup, not the current one, but when I get into es file explorer, I see the file Im trying to use to restore (it is a zipped file, does that matter)? For some reason, its not seeing it in CWM

Is it in the correct folder (clockworkmod/backup I think, but am not sure)?

I think I found the problem. For one, my current file wasnt in CWM-backups, it was just on the sd card. Another, I checked the older file that it saw and it wasnt zipped, so I had to take this newer file, make a copy of it, then unzip it and put it in CWM-backup. Now I will try this again.

Ok, the file was in there, I clicked on restore, it went back to main screen in CWM and on the bottom it says, checking MD5 sums.... next it says MD5 mismatch
Do you know what that means??

I tried restore again, and again it said same thing, checking MD5 sums, MD5 mismatch
Hmmm??? Does this file have to be zipped??? Because I unzipped it? I know to flash it has to be zipped but what about restoring??

You know what I think I did, I put the regular rom in CWM and tried to restore, not the backup, silly me..... I will try this again, only this time with the backup..

I think I finally foud the problem. I created a folder and named it CM7 backup and put the orignal file in there. The name is not changed on the file, so I will try to move this file to CWM and try this again

Im trying to restore now, its been about a minute and its saying checking MD5 sums, it never did this before. Yea, its restoring..:)

MD5 mismatch will often be caused by a name change (or some sort of file corruption which is why it does a check). The backups have to be in that specific folder in order to use them.
