Root help with root stuff

Hi noob here...

Sorry to be asking these questions but I've followed other threads and not really found what I need...

I've rooted my phone and have xrecovery but can't seem to get any further, like jit and installing custom roms.... Help!

Could anyone give a definitive way to install these? Plus which is the best Rom and will I still need jit after installing one?
