Root Help with rooting and ROMs needed

Hi,

Sorry for the noob question but I looked and can't find the answers I need.

I plan to root my Desire this weekend. From what I gather after that I can install 'ROM manager' and then run different ROMs from there.

Is this all correct so far? Have I missed anything?

Then...

Once I'm at this stage where do I get the ROMs from?

Is there a good resource somewhere detailing what ROMs have what and where to download them?

I want to go to vanilla FroYo, can anybody recommend a ROM?

Thanks you very much for any help given.

Thank you both for that.

Awesome guide Lekky, thanks a lot!!

Just hope my new SD card arrives in time to do it this weekend.

Lekky,

Once this is installed would I receive future ota updates or would I need to update the ROM myself?

Also, what the hell is the radio?

Thanks agaian!!

No OTA when using this custom rooted ROM. The rom is updated quite frequently and you just need to flash it as you would in the guide. The radio is the thing that picks up the radio waves allowing the phone to get a signal on the network etc (or something to that effect)

Thanks Lekky.

I'm now rooted and running Froyo :).

Very happy with it so far and I can even connect to my work WiFi at last!!

Where do I check to see if the ROM has been updated? Is there no way to install a ROM and then get future ota updates to save re-flashing and losing apps etc?

There are plenty on the xda forums, in the same subforum as that thread. There are a couple of sense froyo roms there too
