Help with rooting...

I've recently decided to root my CDMA Hero. I've spent two days doing nothing but researching, but everything comes up to be a dead-end.

Firmware: 2.1-update 1
Baseband: 2.42.01.04.23
Kernel: 2.6.29-bc0d2cff htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build: 2.33.556.1 CL180108 Release-keys
Software: 2.33.556.1

If anyone can point me in the right direction/give some guidance, it would be great.
 
If you did some research, then you did not search too good, there are tons of threads of peeps we helped out to root, here is one we just did days ago, Time to root my Hero (

Do you have the SU app in your app drawer, if not try it again, and if it hangs after 10 minutes, either reboot or take the battery out and put it back and turn the phone on and check to see if you have SU app

It's not in my app drawer, and I've let it sit for half an hour now, restarted, and still no luck with SU.


Edit: Let it sit in z4, at the "rebooting" screen.
 
You need to keep running it and rebooting till you get the super user app. It will work I promise. Try temporary root and then permanent root.

Chances are it will not reboot by itself it almost never does for anyone. Just keep trying and pulling the battery if necessary to reboot. It should work. I just rerooted a month ago and it took two trys but it works.
 
Yes, I just rooted a few days ago.
I had the SU app installed already, when I went to check for SU, the app was gone. Rebooted and all was well.
Oh, and it did stick at the rebooting screen! Pulled battery out...I'm rooted!
