Root Help with unrooting/software change

Lol ,em :D

Using the factory Reset option In settings works just as well,it's still doing it with the stock recovery. I just meant its a little Better than relying on twrp :)

I know, I just thought we needed a little levity up in here. :D

Agree about not placing trust in custom recovery over HTC, times a bazillion. I plead temporary insanity on my earlier post.

This absolutely terrifies me! How much battery would you recommend to do this? At the moment it is being extremely temperamental - one day not charging at all, the next charging with no problems. Today it's losing power while switched off and charging and currently only at 27%. I'm still waiting for a relative to send me a backup phone just in case but I'm losing patience with it so I may just have to try without and hope for the best!

It reads like a long process - much of it is prep work on your pc though.

I tried to lay that out first out of respect for your charging issue.

We like to tell everyone that we want a full charge to do this sort of thing but I bet you can get it done with a 50% charge.

If it were me (and I'm saying this when I rooted my first HTC in 2010 and I took 78 steps) - if you can, print out my post, have that with you as well as it up on-screen.

Use the paper copy, check off each step as you complete it, locate the next on-screen, where most of the phone operations are going to be copy and paste.

If you'd like me to go back and number the steps to help with that, I'd be glad to.

If you don't have a printer or don't want to work that way, I'd still be happy to number the steps if it would help.

I'm downloading the files first while I try and get the phone to charge more. It's gone up 1% but I think I could be here all day.

The two recovery files won't open in WinRar. Do you need extract them? Or is it simply a case of putting them in the sdk-tools folder?

The process seems shorter than I was expecting, unless I'm reading it wrong!

The steps you don't want to have a power failure are the two fastboot steps - first to flash TWRP, and the second to flash the stock recovery. The good thing is these only take a second or two to complete. The backup of your current Rom, and the restore of the stock Rom are what will use the most battery - reckon probably about 20% for both (depends on size of user data apps and stuff). As EarlyMon says 50% should be ok if you can get to that.
It does sound more and more like a hardware problem, we need to get you back to stock so you can return to 3 and get it replaced.

The .img files?

Those go right into the sdk-tools folder.

WinRar ought have no place here so far as I see.

And it's not a terribly long process. I just write that way. :D

I saw a post of someone having the same issue of their phone not charging while switched off and they installed cyanogenmod and had no problems so I really am hoping it is the software and a fresh install will fix it.

aimikus - if a clean slate install works, then all good, if not you'll be sorted to take it back. For now let's see how much juice we can get into your battery. Are you ok with the instructions in EarlyMon's post?

I think so yes, still scary doing it for the first time! The battery is alternating between 22/23% whilst switched off and charging so I think it's going to be a while yet.

It can seem a bit daunting, but you'll be fine, follow the instructions and if you get stuck we can deal with it step by step. Main checks are making sure when fastboot flashing the two recovery images, you get the [OKAY] confirmation in the command prompt.

Just in case you have a dodgy cable, in Fastboot mode before tying the flash recovery commands type:

fastboot devices

you should get your device serial no listed in the command window, as a check to make sure fastboot is connecting to your phone ok.

Finally have the backup phone so will be attempting this at the weekend. Charging has improved a bit too so shouldn't be an issue getting it to a decent percentage to do it :)

Saltire, I've just checked that for you as I was curious and came up no problems. Will obviously do it again on the day.

Not good news! Haven't been able to get my phone to charge at all so going to have to get the charging port repaired :(
