EVO 4G just went completely dead in the middle of a update initiated through "check for HTC Updates" anyone know whats going on??? (figures i've been touting it fr a week as the best thing since sliced bread)

It's a stinking brick right now. NEVER TRIED TO HACK IT. only system updates...
