I need help with my droid. When I touch the message icon, it goes to the google screen and I can't get to text messaging

does anyone know how to correct this?

By Google screen do you mean Google voice? If you set Google voice to be the default text messaging application you can clear that setting by going to:

Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Google Voice > Clear defaults
