So I'm still new to android, had atrix since march and then the gnex since december so coming up on one full year. I have not rooted a phone yet and just recently followed the instructions from the thread on here/xda to change my galaxy nexus to yakuj to get updates faster (now running 4.0.2). Ive been thinking about rooting the phone mostly to get market enabler so I can use Wallet (heard this works), google voice (hopefully) and some apps blocked by region (amazon appstore, pandora).

So with that said I have no intention to mess with custom roms, overclocking or any of that. I just want what I have now with 4.0.2 yakuj and to those few apps working.

So Ive read the all things root forum and a few faqs etc but i have a few questions..

1.) Will I still get .0.3 OTA if I root for these purposes?

2.) What is the easiest way to achieve the results im looking for?

3. A.) Is my bootloader unlocked now that ive done the yakuj flash?
B.) Will I wipe my phone if I root?

Sorry for some noob questions but any help is appreciated.

1: Changing your Kernal will stop you form getting the updates. Typically though whatever your using will automatically come out with the update within a couple of Days. If you didnt change your Kernal your good to go on the OTA
2: you dont need to root your phone for Amazon, google voice or even Google Wallet. Google wallet you just need to download the Apk and install it.

3: A- i dont know if your bootloader is unlocked. you can Check by powering off your phone and then holding down the Volume Up and the Volume Down and the Power button all at once.... Then once it boots to the android guy at the bottom of your phone it will tell you if it is unlocked or not (also if you did the command Fastboot OEM unlock while you flashed yakuj at any time that is the unlock command)
B) No rotting will NOT wipe your phone.. Unlocking will.

when i did the yakuj thing it wiped my "sd" and it all worked because within minutes i got 4.0.2

Even the android system info app says im yakuj

ok well you can go HERE to unlock your phone (wipes you phone), and there is also a rooting one in there. You need to pick either GSM or CDMA i dont know what canada is using... but it is the top to topics.

I used the one click (wugz) method to unlock, backup, root my phone.

everything worked great, got wallet working with free 10$ from googs.

Pandora showed up in market and downloaded, but when opened said it wasnt supported in my country.

Anyways, I'm now looking to install the black 4.0.2 gmail apk, I'm assuming I have to remove the stock Gmail client as it wont let me install the other one right now...
