Extreme heat in phones is a function of a rapidly charging or discharging battery. If you have everything on like WiFi 3G/4G, Bluetooth, gps etc. and have it set to sync frequently while using something like maps or the media player, it can get quite hot. It could also indicate that one of the radios is stuck in the on position. Turn off some of the services and shut the phone off. Take out the battery for a minute or two, replace the battery, turn on the phone and see if that solves the problem.

If it still gets hot when you aren't doing much with it, you might need to have it replaced under warranty.

My mom's infuse is very hot to the touch can anyone tell me why and what to do to cool it down thank you

Hello gabesgirl. Welcome to the forums. :)

Lunatic59 describes the issue of phone heat for you in the post after your question, but I am still wondering if you're seeing that heat build up only at certain times, such as when it's being used for phone calls or perhaps when the device is plugged into the charger.

It's possible that the charging cable and/or the charging unit itself is to blame.

In the case of heat during phone calls, this is quite common now days, at least a buildup of warmth that seems a bit much. Nothing can be done about that.

My Infuse did this once, but it had to be because the phone was in my jacket pocket while I was sitting in a restaurant booth. I must have been pushing a button constantly for a good while, because when by the time I realized what was going on my phone was nearly dead (suddenly) and the phone was really warm. Lesson learned, so I'm a little more careful with it now.

I've noticed the GPS function builds up a lot of heat. Also, are you using a cover? I bought a cover for mine and it just traps the heat in. I had to stop using it. Prolong use does make the phone hot but not so hot that it's uncomfortable to hold or touch.

Yeah, I almost never have the GPS on unless I'm using navigation or a golf GPS app. My G1 used to overheat and shut down when I was using GPS and navigation for any trip over 20 minutes.
