Hi there folks, so in my haste to install Ice Cream Sandwich on my S2 via ODIN i completely followed a youtube guide perfectly. Now the problem is that I installed GT-i9100 version of ICS instead of the version for a i700... SO how can I get this thing into download mode so I can fix this problem. I don't exactly have that middle button on one of those European models or whatever they are.

you may be hard bricked. the only chance you have is pulling the battery and putting it back in while holding volume up and down the whole time. you can use a jig to get into download mode also.

Pull the battery to make sure it's off, then replace it. Plug the USB cable into your PC but not your phone. Press and hold both the vol. up and vol. down keys and plug the usb cable into the phone and keep holding the volume buttons until you see the warning about installing a custom OS. Press vol. up to confirm.

You should be in download mode now and can flash the correct rom.

Are you using the original USB Cable? It needs to jumper pins 4 and 5 and most generic USB cabled leave pin 5 unassigned. Sometimes the original jack gets stretched as well. If you can't find a USB cable to get you into download mode, you might have to use a jig.

Yea I'm using its official Samsung usb. Where can I get one of these jigs? Or is there anyway you can edit the software via usb? (I guess without being in download mode)

Try a different cable if you have one or can borrow one. My guess is your cable is defective. If you want to go the jig route, you can get one on amazon ... http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Dongle-Samsung-Captivate-Vibrant/dp/B0053H73JQ

Or you could build one ...

You will need a cheap micro USB cable ... the cheaper the better because you will be cutting out the micro USB connector with a razor knife (x-acto works just fine). Then you need to go to a Radio Shack and buy the 5-pack of 100K ohm resistors for $1.29 (you only need three, but 300k single resistors are harder to find) and a soldering iron with a fine point.

Slice the insulation off the cable and disconnect all the wires. Then you will need to solder the three resistors in series and connect the ends to pin 4 and pin 5 of the micro USB connector.

The connections will be (when viewing the connector as shown) the furthest most left connection on top (pin 4) and on bottom (pin 5)

You end up with this:

Once you've built your jig, then power off the phone (battery pull would be advised in your case) then with the phone off, plug in the jig. In a few seconds it should boot into download mode and away you go.

As for editing, you'd need to be able to boot your phone into debugging mode and have a working knowledge of the OS. Highly impractical for this type of problem.

Ah ok lunatic, I've tried a couple other usb cords and still the same luck, either battery sign or it'll power on the phone. Perhaps it has something to do with W8 not recognizing the phone until it is powered on or something.

It shouldn't matter what OS is on the PC. This is built into the phone. I just want to make sure you're doing it in the proper sequence.

1. Phone is completely off (pull battery to be sure).
2. Official Samsung USB cable is plugged into USB port on PC and not plugged into phone.
3. Press and hold BOTH volume up and volume down buttons without touching any other button or softkey.
4. Plug USB cable into phone and wait for warning screen.

5. Release buttons and press volume up to continue.

If that's not working for you, you might have a faulty OEM cable and the others you've tried leave pin 5 open. It's common and Samsung phones are very fussy about cables. You might need the jig to get it into download mode, but without a decent cable, I don't know if your phone will be recognized.

Yea I just shows the battery with a load sign underneath and then the 5 dots after a couple seconds. I'm already bought that jig earlier, $4 isn't a big deal but still.

That operation must not be working because its a i700 thinking its a i9100...

The AT&T version is the SGH-i777, but as soon as you alter any of the firmware on it, it will show the i9100 splash screen. That's normal.

If this is what you're seeing, then your cable isn't making the necessary connection. The Jig should get you into download mode.

Hey to open up an old thread now, I finally got the Jig from singapore and can boot the phone into download mode, what .tar file do i need for odin to fix this thing??

Um, so I installed the kernal and now my phone won't load past the Samsung start screen... don't I need a full new rom to just start the phone from scratch?

Can you get into recovery? You can flash your rom from there.

If you don't have a rom file or a nandroid backup on your phone, you can download a rom, copy it to an SD card and put it in the phone. Then boot into recovery and mount the SD card, then install it from there. Give ShoStock2 a try if you are looking for a good clean ICS rom.

You flashed the Zedomax kernel?

If so, with the jig out and the phone not plugged in to the usb cable hold the vol. up, vol. down and the power button until the screen flashes. Then release the power button but keep holding both volume buttons until it boots into recovery.

Doesn't work. The only thing that comes up no matter what under its own power is the Samsung Galaxy s2 GT-I9100 screen. Also it pops up on its own after a few seconds as soon as the battery is plugged in.

FOUND the right md5 file from SamMobile, seems to be fixed, runnign smoothly and can make calls/etc. Thanks alot lunatic :)
