Hi I've just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Portal smartphone GT-I5700 but i can't turn off my 3G its on constantly does anybody know how to turn it off?

I would suggest going into the Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile Networks > Uncheck the data enabled....

Hopefully that works, if not get back with me

What DC mentioned works or if you want a quick way to, there are dozens of data on/off switches in the market you can choose from as well.
