HELP!!!

Lurker
So my phone just randomly went onto the 'Galaxy S3' boot screen and kept bootlooping so I tried update/recover it through Kies and that failed. Now when I turn it on it goes to an error screen saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issure. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"

So then I've tried do it with Odin 3.07 and that fails on me, is there a way to fix this as I've tried the only 2 ways I know about and both are failing.

I hope my phone ain't gone and broke properly!

It was working fine earlier then I looked at it and it was on the boot screen looping!

Since it was the carrier that sent the upgrade, and that's what failed, bring it to the store. speak to the manager (or owner) and see if they can get the carrier to accept responsibility for the damage they caused. This should be covered under the warranty of "you break my nose, you pay my medical bills".

I bought it second hand, I don't know if it was rooted and because it was second hand I can't take it back to the store. It was working fine then just randomly went to the boot screen and froze on that. Trying Kies again now but I'll probably have no luck!

Might just sell it (if I can get enough for it) and pay my contract off to upgrade to the S4

Kies should be able to restore the factory image to the device, make sure you are following the instructions to a T.

Make sure you are using a quality USB cable, try more than one cable.

Make sure you are connecting the device directly to the computer, do not use a USB hub or extension of any kind.

Try yet another USB cable!

Temporarily disable your antivirus/malware solution while trying to recover your phone.

Report back the results.

Welcome to Android Forums.

In summary ...

Samsung Galaxy S3 ... correct?
Who is your carrier?
Is your phone root-ed?

Yes it's a Galaxy S3 and I'm on 3UK but I'm not sure what network the phone was on originally. It's been opengated and it's second hand and not sure about if it's rooted or not

Maybe it's the cable then? I've only got 2 and one of them doesn't connect properly anymore so the one I'm using is really old. I guess a phone shop could sort it for me though? I'll just take it in tomorrow and get it fixed and sell it on, been wanting to upgrade to the S4 for a while anyway

So when it gets to the bit after downloading the firmware (on kies) and goes to install it it comes up saying USB device has malfunctioned then obviously the update fails

Since youre in Europe, the phone is still under warranty, second hand or not. Take it to a 3 store and theyll be able to tell by the code on the back where and when it was bought and under what network. If that fails, samsung should fix it.
Try the advice the guys are giving you though. Sounds like it just needs reflashed
