Anyway, just wanted to say a quick "hello" and give some background. I run a small pool service / spa repair business, and am starting a second business to replace the first one (details are secret and still under Wraps). I'm a musician, and play bass guitar, guitar guitar, the somewhat guitarish mandolin, and sing in two bands here in Fresno CA. I also work on cars and tinker.
As far as Geek Creds go.... I'm a second-class nerd. I do love putting together computers and I've been a Linux Distro Junkie since 2000, but I can't program anything and I'm not as handy with shell command line as I should be.
I joined this site because I have an old no-longer used Samsung Captivate SGH-1897 that I decided to mess with. I currently have a Nokia Lumia 900 Windows 7 (never to be 8) phone that is just kinda blah. Windows is not a bad OS, but because they decided to orphan this model a month after I bought it, people just don't build apps for it like they do on Android or even iOS. I want to get a new phone, but my contract isn't up until next April, and I don't have the money to shell out for a full price purchase. So I decided I'd root and flash that old Captivate to see what I could do, and maybe provide a more up-to-date Android alternative to my Windows phone.
