Ok i need a little help i have a virgin mobile lg optimus v and a 2005 dell inspirion 8600 and im trying to use the mobile hotspot setting to connect it... can some one please help me figure this out. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Does Virgin Mobile have any special restrictions for tethering?
 
Go to settings menu on your Android

Tap Wireless Networks

Then tap tethering and portable hotspot.

Simply check the arrown that says "Mobile AP"

Your phone should now be visible from your laptops wifi as an access point.

If it is visible but you don't get internet go back to wireless networks. Tap mobile networks then tap access point names. Select another access point and try again.
