Situation: ugly cell service, very good internet service.
So I researched what I came to know as the VOIP options and found things getting simpler and better for single user. That is how I came across this forum which had good info.
I got an 2.2 android phone with bad esn [Optimus V, $11 from ebay] and set up google voice[free] and grooveIP[$5]. Reading about it was harder than actually doing it: no glitches, good call quality.
So I ditched the cell service and now have free calls & txts over wifi to North America. Free works for me just fine. Also set up my brother's phone.

Next: I would like to have a voip phone with working cell service [for backup] so present project is another ebay purchase: ATT Avail Z990 GoPhone [10 cents/min, no contract], a 2.3 android with wifi integration [huh?]. I am now reviewing the various info on setting up GV and GIP which brought me back to this forum, so I decided to register and ask some Qs as I continue.
Also glad to help with any Qs about the subject.
