Favor...need recommendations for a good picture hiding app for the Note 3.

The wife lost her phone briefly while on our vacation at the beach and while nothing really of value datawise on her phone, she was very concerned about pictures of our kids ending up splashed all over the internet. Not sure whether her concerns are valid but as most of us know....happy wife...happy life.

She wants an app that will allow her to hide pictures. A friend uses Hide It Pro, and it seems like a great program, but within the first week, she tried to "Unhide" a picture and the picture became corrupt and she lost it. An email to the developer was returned as "no one here".

So I'm going out on a limb here that many of my brethren here are using such programs for sexting and such and have some experience with some good, updated programs. Who knows, if the program actually works well maybe the wife will start taking better selfies!

If you want to keep pictures hidden from anyone less well equipped than a good police lab, search for "steganography". A picture hidden like that can't be seen without processing by the software that created it, or someone who spoke computer before he learned to dribble. It's not "there, you just can't see it unless you know the password". It's a document, or a binary file, or some other kind of file that, when passed through the right software, becomes the picture.

If she just wants the pictures available on the phone when she wants them, but not if someone finds the phone, tell her to contact Abby Sciuto - the Hollywood OS is the only one that does things like that.

People who "hide" pictures from the police are like kids who close their eyes and claim that what they don't want to see doesn't exist - the only ones they're fooling are themselves.

As far as losing a picture that got corrupted, there's an old saying in the computer game - any file that's not backed up o at least 2 different devices is a file you don't really want. If he pictures of your little one's first steps are only on the phone, and someone drives over the phone when you drop it, you've lost something you can never recapture. If it's backed up on your desktop and on Dropbox, it's safe - you just need a new phone. Insurance (or a lawsuit) can replace hardware - it can't replace data.
 
She is not looking for military grade encryption or anything. Just something to keep the casual user from finding them or if it were to be lost.
 
You could look into the AV/Malware utility 'Web Root'.

It provides a remote management capability such that if you loose your phone, you can go to the Web Root web site, to which you have previously authenticated and select an option to remotely 'Lock' your phone so that no one can access it, or if desired to have your phone 'Self Destruct' in that it deletes and/or removes all personal information from the unit.

If that is to much, there are other utilities similar to AT&T Locker which will allow you to store your info in an encrypted format on your phone.

In fact the 'App Manager' on the Note 3 and most devices that support external SDHC storage media allows you to 'Encrypt' that device on your phone so that they would have to had the password for data files before they could even access them.

I think dropbox would be great except you would need the internet to see them..So really not a good option other than maybe to back them up..
 
Something real simple...put the pics you want to hide from gallery in some folder (doesnt matter what its called) now add a text file to that folder named .nomedia Now none of the pics will show in the gallery but theyre not encrypted or anything.
 
The gallery in the T Mobile Note 3 has an option to hide pictures. Go to the gallery and choose the menu button and then the option to hide items. Choose the photos that you want to hide.
