Newish Cricket Ascend owner here trying to figure out which Rom I want to flash to. If I'm reading right A2SD is going to be a problem for me: I've got one app that can't run fully featured on SD card and it's a deal breaker. If none of the roms will let me put that app on the phone then I don't flash to a new rom and I just get the official 2.2 if I can find a corporate location in my area. Which I assume means I'll have to flash back to factory and reroot (lame).

I'm currently almost done scouring the Ultimate Cust. Guide (did Icarus install thread yesterday) and taking notes for my clarification questions that don't seem to be answered on the wiki. Also, I've decided I hate upload . com. But it gets the job done so whatever.

And on that note...back to reading. :D

Welcome to Android Forums!

Am I to assume you are still on 2.1? That will be a problem as apps to sd wasn't enabled until 2.2. You might want to visit Huawei Ascend - Android Forums and ask the other Ascend users what they've done and how they did it. Good luck! :)

Yeah still on 2.1 that's why I'm looking at flashing a new rom. It looks like, worst case scenario, I should be able to partition my sdcard (as soon as I figure out what sizes to make the partions on my dinky stock sdcard) and use links2sd though (it says it workds for 1.6+). I'm actually not that hard core of an app junkie but I'd like to move my games and ebook reader to the sdcard if I can so that I can actually have more than 5 pictures on my phone at any given time. And I frigging hate going into Metro and Cricket stores in person.

You should know that even with the latest version of Android there are some apps that can't be moved to sd and others that shouldn't. Widgets in particular must always reside in the phone's memory and not be moved to sd.

I'm aware that's the problem with my "deal breaker" app. It's the ColorNote app and the features that are the reason I use it won't work if it's on the SDcard. I'm trying to find a method of installing apps on the card that lets me pick which apps I move instead of moving them there by default. Like I said, from what I'm reading on the custom roms, I'm not sure that any of them are going to work for me. I also use Widgetsoid and Minimilist Text and obviously I wouldn't want those installing to the SD either. So if I can't find a method of moving apps to SD (via a custom rom or the official 2.2 if it's finally out for cricket) then I just won't bother and I'll have to make do with the limited space I have. I think Links2sd should work for me once I partition my card, if none of the roms do. It definitely lets me decide which apps to move.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, millahnna.

I'm not familiar with links2sd, but there's a memory "trick" we used on the HTC Droid Eris called cache2cache which used the under-utilized /cache partition to move some apps to.

Not sure if that's the same as links2sd or if there's unused /cache space on your device, but that might be something you could investigate (the best place to search for it would be on xda-developers.com).

Anyway, we're glad you signed-up with us here at AF.

Cheers!
