Hole above volume rocker?

I appologize if this has already been asked and/or is a stupid question but can somone tell me what the purpose of the hole just above the volume rocker switch?

Thanks in advance!

so you're telling me that if I wanted to I could put a strap on it?

Sure, that's what that hole is for, a lanyard type strap.. many styles out there.. most of them lame.. I mean really cool.

I thought that was an antenna inside the hole and that's just kind of a direct "line of sight" for the signal to reach it.

If you take the back cover off, you can see some type of antenna looking thing, I just assumed that was why the hole was there.

On another forum I had heard it was for a noise cancellation mic for video recording...
Or for speakerphone maybe. That's not a bad idea.

I don't think it is though, it's a pretty big hole. Plus I think they would put the mic for noise cancellation right next to the normal mic so they can record the "noise" correctly at the source. Between the speaker and the mic, it could change slightly and mess up the whole cancellation-ness.

It's a helluva weird way to do a phone strap holder, and it's not great. I noticed if you tug hard enough, you can pull the strap out without removing the cover. So don't over rely on your phone strap.
