Root Home and Search Button Fault?

So I'm guessing my only alternative is to send it off for repair?

But that's what I recently done and it didn't do anything... Are you insisting repeat it?

If you have done all the software checks then I would imagine it is an intermittent hardware fault in which case you will need to RUU back to stock and try and get it sorted under warranty I think...

Okay, thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it... There's no point in trying to fix something that can't be fixed, so even you telling me just to get it repaired helps.. Thanks again.

Okay, I'm REALLY sorry to bother you guys again, especially with me finally calming to get it repaired. But I did notice that if I FULLY reset ALL the phones settings (e.g. Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, etc.) the less applications I install, it actually works PERMANENTLY. So far I've only had it like this for a few hours, with four applications installed, but in the past I have with installing applications of the same amount, less or more had it working longer than a few hours. Are you guys sure it's not just a number of applications being installed? Or some setting I'm changing? Once again sorry, but I actually am just REALLY confident that it doesn't have to be sent for repair. Once again, thank you for your time and patience, and I COMPLETELY understand if you guys don't want to help me... However, I just HAD to ask.

I would say unlikely to be the number of applications per se but more likely a rogue app.

Best suggestion, slowly (and it would have to be really slowly) restore your apps, where possible downloading from the Market rather than from back up. Monitor each one for a few hours and then you should be able to identify which one is causing the problems.

I would agree with all of this. We've suggested and tried it before quite a few times. It really is baffling.

I think it needs to just be taken back to stock with an RUU and either returned or started again from scratch

I think I will use Oneiroi's method... I will post in this thread AS SOON as something comes up. Thanks.

I've lost the plot. We have already told you to do this and you already did it here: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/387164-home-search-button-fault-2.html#post2868902http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/354790-search-home-button-do-not-work-2.html

Unless you actually did something else?

This is the problem with having loads of threads of the same subject.

O-LAmdroid, I've merged all 7 or 8 threads you've created about this SAME issue. Now I will have to go through all 100 posts looking to delete the double/junk posts.....

In the future please utilize the threads you've already created when it is the same topic. Thanks

(oh and I would listen to whatever SURoot says, that man knows what he's talking about:))

SU, i will clean your post up of links unless you'd rather do it, thanks for that btw

Okay, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. I had no idea it was causing any trouble. Also, yes, I did do it before, but I installed the applications to quick and not how you guys are telling me now (Slowly). Also, I just didn't believe in it being ONE application...

Okay, I've done what you guys suggested, and the last application I installed was a new one in which I have *NEVER* installed in the past. However, after factory resetting it again, I installed the exact same applications (Including the new one I hadn't installed previously), and restored *EVERYTHING* on the phone back to the way it was... Except for *ONE* thing... I didn't set a lockscreen pin... And the buttons still work... Could it be that?

Give it time and see whether they continue to work. Then I suppose the test would be to set the PIN and see whether the fault then recurs.

I've used lockscreen PINs on a few ROMs, including Miui XJ, without problems, so I don't think that the PIN per se is a problem. But conceivably if there is a misbehaving app it might depend on other settings in the phone.

Okay, I'll let you know the results a while after I set the pin... Thanks.

Okay, I set the pin, and it was okay. But after that, I installed *JUST* one more application I forgot to install when restoring the phone back to normal... The buttons stopped working. The application was "Ultra Voice Changer"... But once again, in the past when I have factory reset it, and the buttons stopped working again, I hadn't even installed this application... I *SERIOUSLY* think that the problem is to do with me going over some type of application installing limit. What do you guys think?

I currently have 182 apps installed (120 user, 62 system), though it has been more at times. I'm using about 300MB of sd-ext storage, plus 93MB of dalvik cache in internal storage. I've never seen the problem you describe.

Are you using significantly more than that?

We've told you its not that so many times. There is no such limit of applications that causes your buttons to stop working. Who would implement this? Why? How? If it was a bug, what could cause such a bug? ...and why does no one else have this bug?

What else can it possibly be then? The buttons only stop working as soon as I install more than a certain number of apps?

Is it possible that it could also be some setting I am changing? Like the screen brightness, or anything like that?
