Help Home Button Suddenly Stopped Working

I was charging my phone last night and suddenly the recent apps just keeps appearing. Then it started doing it about ten times.

Then I tried to shut it down, but then it just took a screen shot!

So I thought the home button must be going crazy and because as you know holding the Home = Recent Apps and Home + Power = screen shot.

I tried pressing the home button, then the recent apps appears less so I tried to shut the phone down.

When I turned it on again, the home button is not very sensitive, until you have to press real hard just for it to work, sometimes even then it won't work.

It's a stock ROM, I only upgraded it to 2.3.6 this week.

Do you know what's wrong?

Should I give it to the Samsung repair center? It still has warranty.

Edit: I forgot to mention I hard reset my phone, like my friend suggested. Still didn't work.

Thank you all in advance.

It does look like the home button is being pressed constantly. Looks like hardware issue although it could be as simple as having sand wedge in between the gaps or spring not working properly.

Either way, since its a hardware issue, you should get Samsung to fix it unless you know how.

Cheers

Aye there must be some kind of dirt or sand having gotten in under the button.
If you unscrew and remove the back cover, you should be able to blow some air in under the button to clear it.
Also, what's holding the button in are 2 rubbery tab strips that extend sideways from the button and into the phone, from memory these tabs have a hole in them and part of the phone plastic then slots into it (they also have a triangle shaped lump of rubber extending from the tab aswell I think), they hold it, but it's easy to remove the button without breaking anything if you use a small pointy thing, same for getting it back in, you should be able to get access to where the tabs slide into with the back cover off, or you may need to remove a circuit board first.

-lol, I'm a goober, I went to all the trouble of explaining the button when I should've just grabbed a pic...

I tried to blow off any dust or sand with canned air, still didn't work. So I called the Samsung official repair office and they said it might be because of the update to 2.3.6.

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.
