Help Home screen lag

ICS brought significant boost in UI speed/smoothness from GB. Also the current top phones are way more powerful than old Evo and upcoming Jelly Bean will bring additional speed bump over ICS. If you don't like TW or Sense, use Nova or Apex. They are very smooth.

You need to take thread like this with big grain of salt and try it out yourself before making judgement. If you are coming from old Evo, I'm pretty sure you will be blown away by screen speed of this phone.

I understand what you're saying and I would fully expect more power out of phones today vs a phone from 2 years ago. What i am saying is that the problem discussed in this thread is the same problem i've had on my Evo and is the same problem they are talking about in the LTE Evo forum. This makes me believe that its an android problem and not a phone problem. This shouldve already been fixed and the old "android solution" of using a third party app to go around the problem is getting old. I shouldnt have to do that, and from the post in this thread they dont seem to work.

I agree with this. It sucks that it seems that this has not yet been addressed.

For those using the Nova home launcher, is the Accuweather widget missing from your S3 too? Can't seem to locate it.

You need to realize that lag is somewhat subjective topic. I doubt that this discussion will go away anytime soon no matter how much hardware and software improve. For instance, iPhone4 felt very fluid with no lags when it first came out. Then iPhone4S made it look like turtle. Actually I see iPhone4 very laggy with many apps installed and even 4S sometimes stutter to the contrary of common belief.

The same goes for androids between different generations. Even though we still use the word "lag" or "stutter" here, the level of lag we are talking about now is probably very different than two years ago. I think this lag in GS3 or One X discussed here would seem like lighting speed if people saw it two years ago. No matter how fast the phone is, there will always be some folks feeling it's not fast enough, IMO.

With my DX, it's not lag when the screen has to one by one, repopulate all the icons. It's a problem with the OS. Lag is, to me, when I flick from one page of apps to the next and there is a hickup or slight pause. When the screen has to repopulate each icon, there is an issue and it's not called lag. I'd be interested in those who think the video on post 40,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xAdvZt-CNo&feature=player_embedded
is:
1) lag
or
2) an issue with Android OS

I do not think it is lag. I think it's an issue with the OS as it is across multiple devices (galaxy S, S3, G-note), multiple carriers, and multiple device manufactures (Samsung, moto, etc) with different skins (TW, Sense, Vanilla).

I don't even understand what anybody is talking about.
TW responds very fast and smoothe on my phone.
As fast as my fingers can move.
The same with GoLauncher, which I use for the customization abilities over TW.
No "lag" or "stutters" whatsoever.
Notta one iota.
Either some folks are able to perceive some kind of response delay on a micro or mili-second scale that I cant detect, or T-mobile's S2 is totally and truly lag-free.
Which would have to be a processor thing, as opposed to UI performance (if I'm explaining myself right); since this is the only thing different about this phone from all the others.
I wonder if other T-mobile S2 owners experience completely lag-free performance...

Just because yours is fine...never mind. Tired of wasting my time replying to dumb replies.
Watch the video, read the threads, apparently something is wrong.

I don't get this issue with my spectrum. never do I get redraws. reading this thread makes me like it even more than I already did!

I just ran a test to stress my spectrum as much as I could so I opened 16 tabs in boat browser (which was the maximum allowed) and then hit my home button and it open my launcher instantly! I then scrolled through my home screens and app drawer and there was no lag.

I'm rooted with eclipse ROM installed and running Holo launcher on GB 2.3.6

Just to add, I arrived here to see if this was happening to anyone else - it's really quite annoying - I''ve not at all been impressed with the speed of the s3 so far, considering it's got a quad core processor and meant to be the best phone out there.

Other slowness issues I've noticed is when you start typing a contacts name into the dialer and a matching contact comes up, when you press the arrow to the right of the contact to expand the list, it takes a second or two to bring up the list of contacts - not what you'd expect from a quad core

I don't understand your reply.
Mine being "fine" wasn't the point I was trying to make.
All I was saying was that lagging probably isn't a flaw in TW (hence no reason to use a 3rd launcher, since apparently people are still experiencing lagging issues with Go and Nova anyways) as TW works fine on my phone.
So it must be an Android issue, but a flaw in the processors, as opposed to in the UI.
That's all I was suggesting, dude.

I'm on probation, so I cant comment on the stupidity of your post like you suggested of mine the way I want to.
So all I'll say is that I think that you should either get some sleep, or lay off the caffeine. Whichever will make you a better person to others that are just trying to help.
Dude.

Hi a have been having this problem as well and even had my phone replaced but the new dose the same! I found on another site that if you disable s voice and or change you background application in developer options to max of 4 is stopped this from happening. I have tried it and right now I have 8 pages open on big websites and I get ne redraw! Disabling s voice alone dose not help bit I have yet to try using it since changing my settings on back ground apps!

I'm UK to mate try changing your back ground apps in developer options its like giving the phone speed! Only down it today so might change! It seems to change back to normal limit when you restart the phone tho.

Cool, will give it a go dude, we shouldnt have to disable things for it to work properly though - i'm kinda wishing I got the One X - never had any of these issues with my trusty HTC Desire :) S-Voice is a bloody waste of time too - has anyone actually found any use for it yet? I had a iPhone 4S (for about 2 months grrrrr!) and Siri was just as pointless...

I no it's a bit rubbish to have to disable things but iv re enabled it now think the limiting background apps is what's done it! I agree tho s voice is crap got the 4s as work phone and it's slightly better but still not really very good! I had a HTC sensation before I got a galaxy s2 and used to get he screen reloads all the time with sence 3.5. Never had it with the s2 that's why I got the s3 think from what I have read one x dose it as well but sence takes longer to reload!

Fair enough, I'll stop moaning, hopefully the next software update resolves it :)

Lol yes hopefull but untill then limiting background apps works a treat and I haven't noticed any probes with multi tasking :)

I've never experienced it in Nova. I installed Nova on day 1 and never even gave touchwiz a chance, so I've never seen this issue before. I'm really glad to see so many folks are fans of Nova as well.

For those of you with this issue, try out the free version of Nova and report back if it's still persistent:

Nova Launcher

Nova doesn't make any difference at all, touchwiz and nova both have to reload after a memory hungry application on my phone.

My guess is this version of touchwiz is allot more memory intensive and it should have shipped with 2GB RAM like the US versions or it's a serious bug.

But using Nova solves nothing, if anything it might make it worse as it's another application taking up memory.

I've just switched from the one x and I can confirm it also has the launcher lag problem but far worse. Also scrolling left and right is laggy. At least tell s3 swipes between screens smoothly.

Has anyone else tried changing there background app settings as it seems to good to be true I cant get any home screen redraw no matter how hard I try plus phone uses like a different price of kit!

... which is exactly what I've been trying to say; that it's not a UI thing at all, but the Androids ability (or lack thereof) to multi-task in general.

Wow, I'm extremely worried now.

Was planning to get a SGS3 on the 14th when my upgrade kicks in, but now I may reconsider.

I'm coming from an iPhone which is pretty much flawless when it comes to Apps loading back in etc. so this is a major blow for me :(

It's not Android. If it is then tell me why I never get launcher redraws on my lg spectrum.

as I mentioned in an earlier post I opened 16 tabs in boat browser and then hit my home button and was instantly back on my home screen.

and there are lots of people not having this issue. Matter of fact, this issue had never even come up on the spectrum forums.

Yes, the iphone is very smooth in that respect, but imo there are far too many drawbacks of having an iphone compared to android for that to be a deciding factor.
