Help Home screen lag

Wow, I'm extremely worried now.

Was planning to get a SGS3 on the 14th when my upgrade kicks in, but now I may reconsider.

I'm coming from an iPhone which is pretty much flawless when it comes to Apps loading back in etc. so this is a major blow for me :(

I've never had an issue with applications needing to reload, only the launcher here. Some games won't but that's always been the case, that's an issue with the games themselves.

It's also confirmed to happen on the HTC One X but worse apparently, so I'm guessing it's memory management issue with the internal task killer in Android which they should be able to solve.

The iPhone doesnt multitask anyway, it's just task switcher.

Wow - I am not the only one here - It has been driving me completely mad.

Just about everytime I leave a text message the screen redraws - most of the icons show up immediately, but a couple of the widgets take a couple of seconds to show.

At first I thought it was a conflict betwen widgets I had installed - but after several resets and testing it seems it happens straight out of the box.

They really need to get this one sorted - quad core hanset not being abel to refresh the screen in time - useless. I came from an old HTC Desire and that didn't have this issue

Have changed the window and transition animation scale to 0.5 - still happens, tried force gpu rendering - still happens. currently trying to limit background process to 2 at the most to see what happens.

Really hope this gets sorted - don't want, or think we should have to move to another launcher (apex or nova) especially when you have to pay to get all the simple features. Plus - have you seen all the permissions that you have to let these 3rd party launchers have access to - can you really trust them?

Please - Please - Samsung or anyone get this sorted ASAP

By the same token, those of you that can control your CPU's can eliminate all lag and control "redraws" by setting your minimums anything above (standard setting) 384MHz.
I know this post belongs in the root forum, but I didn't realize where my posts were leading up to.
The point is, lag isn't a TW or any other launcher problem; it's the speed of the processor that causes/eliminates lag.

I'm using static wallpaper and it still happens

Even tried limiting the background process down to 1 and then 0 and it still happens - most of the time when coming out of the text message application.

So annoying

Hi mine has just started doing it again really crap think we all need .think we all need to email Samsung and complain as the call centre just says it's not a prob and must be a faulty handset! If they won't admit it's a fault they will prob not fix it either. Think the phone should have had two gig of ram like the US version!

This is a typical response from a manufacturer or service provider. Most likely they will continue to say it's an isolated issue and they haven't heard about it before over and over for the next couple weeks until they send an OTA to fix it.

BTW, I've had 3 Gnexs and never had the redrawing issue at all (and don't remember it on my Inc2 either) so its not an Android problem, just specific to certain phones most likely.

Does someone have a step-by-step to make the home screen lag? I'm yet to be able to get mine to do it. I reverted to the default screen launcher (TouchWiz), and can't seem to 'force' said screen refresh issue...

I do wonder if this is caused by the sheer volume of widgets on the home screen(s) (not just the main screen, but all)?

I only have ONE widget, period, the weather. Yes, I know, some people are probably asking, "Why on earth do you own an Android?". Well, I like my screen(s) plain jane, but with lovely wallpaper (not live)...

Here you go, it is a simple three page, with only ONE widget ;)

But using Nova solves nothing, if anything it might make it worse as it's another application taking up memory.

This actually makes sense. Installing Nova did not eliminate the lag for me. So I just uninstalled it and stuck with TW.

Thanks for the screenshot navi. So you never had a quick redraw or stutter after browsing the net on the stock browser? Or from the text message app?

On another note. In preparation for my SGS3 I pulled out an old OG Droid (rooted with MIUI) it has zero redraws. I also pulled out an old GNex (stock) while there was some stutters, and minor lag there were no redraws. I believe its a software issue. With no actual background in electronics I can only surmise that the issue is app related. They are not optimized to handle memory efficiently on different phones. I think its a fragmentation android related issue more so than hardware. An OG Droid on 2.2 has less lag than a GNex stock ICS....

Navi just open up all 8 tabs in the stock browser with pages like phonearena to take up the most amount of ram amid then hit the home button and if don't redraw then your very lucky :) also my galaxy s 2 never did this bit my sensation did all the time think it's not android bit the skins they put on it.more ram would deff solve other tho don't think us version dose it!

I just tried that, and unless I'm doing something wrong, it seemed to work fine...

I opened eight tabs, and went to websites like CrackBerry, Android Central, Android Forums, Sky Sports Football (to name a few), and then pressed the home button. The page drew with no lag.

So when I get my SGS3 next Saturday as long as I have a live wallpaper, use TouchWizz and don't put too many widgets on I should be fine?

I've been lurking SG3 forums although haven't recieved mine yet (hopfully will be delivered tomorrow). I read a post in a forum saying he had home screen lag but it went away when he disabled an option to start s-voice by pressing home butten twice. Maybe this is what you are looking for?

I just got mine. I noticed the redraw when testing out all the stuff and installing and checking apps, when it was set to 7 screens with not much on them. I reduced to 3 homepages and use a live wallpaper and I have not noticed it since. I am still installing and trying out my old apps, and setting up my phone but so far I do not notice it since.

I couldn't help but to LOL!

I'm certainly not the best example for use of a device. I use it, but rather basic as compared to some other users that have to be on it 24/7/365 and have every widget known to man.

I only need one widget, and even the weather I don't REALLY need it, seriously. I don't even need the time widget either.

*he walks away to remove said widgets* :)

Tried reducing my home screens down to 3 - still got the lag - wonder if it has anything to do with the widgets that I have on them?

Also have the CPU limited in powersavings - will try with 3 homescreens and not limit the cpu to see if that helps

For me it happens usually when I have just finished sending a text message - when you go back to the home screen the widgets there take some time to appear. Aaaaagh
