Home screens/widgets/apps problem

When I long press on my home screens, no pop-up box arrives to ask if I want to add a widget/app etc.
When I long press on my apps or widgets on home screen, I can't move them or delete them. Also can't do this in the apps folder.

No idea why it isn't working, as phone has been working fine and now I can't change or amend anything, as the long presses don't work anymore!

I assume you have tried taking the battery out and restarting the phone?

Are you using another Launcher like ADW Launcher? In this case you certainly have "locked the homescreen" unlock it by pressing the menu button, then more button then unlock desktop.
