Just purchased a new samsung 8000 series 3d LED tv, and im trying to hookup my surround sound system to it. When I play music through my droid (not through TV) it sound fine no interference or anything, but the instant I switch it to TV I get a loud buzzing interference from the sub woofers in my floor speakers (only left and right) the regular speakers are fine. I'm thinking its some sort of power issue with the receiver/amp, but if that were the case wouldn't the buzzing be present when not playing through the TV? When I hook up the system to my 50" samsung plasma I dont get any of the buzzing either.

currently i just use a red/white component hook up.

I'm at work now so I dont know the exact model numbers of speakers and stuff :(

Generally a buzz/hum is caused by bad ground. If it's only when using the tv and not other inputs then I'd suggest a higher quality cable.

Are you running a component type receiver? Does it have a ground lug on the back? You could try running a ground wire to a ground rod outside or to a ground strap on your water lines if they're metal.

One last small thought, did you have the droid charging when you heard the noise? My evo has a buzz in the background of music if I have it plugged in while listening. Bad ground is the problem there too...nothing I can do though on that one.

I was going to try a SPDIF cable but wasnt sure if that would help, I guess i can try that and just return it if it doesnt work

Indeed hum is due to grounding issues. You usually unplug everything involved in the combo that's creating the hum and start off with just the tv hooked up to the reciever then to the speakers and turn on. If there is no hum, then plug in another component like the DVD/Blu-Ray player and turn it back on. If no hum then hook up another component like the Cable tuner and so on and so forth until you find the hum. Then when you find the component causing the hum you either remove the ground from that plug, or adjust the grounding screw if that device has one.

It can be a very frusterating process. But worth it when you eliminate the ground loop hum.
