Help homescreen error

vtrasikis

Lurker
When I click to see all of my apps, and I click on the search icon, I get this error:

Sorry!

The application Homescreen (process com.motorola.home) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

The only option is to force close. Now the phone will NOT work and I end up having to turn it off and back on. Any suggestions what is causing this???

I have seen many posts saying corp/imap apps is the culprit. So it may be the native email app causing it. Several people seem to think hotmail app may be an issue as well.

I just tried it with the clarification provided.

Select the App Menu key.
When any screen is displayed select the Search key.
It throws the error and invokes a browser (either Browser or Opera Mobile)
I can the select Home and return to the home page.

I have no idea as to the cause.

So it is happening to others. Except that I don't get the browser, I will sometimes get the dialer or some other screen. The only key that sometimes works is the home key, but by then the phone just acts strange, so a power off / on to get it to work normal again.

Happens to me also. After I click the force closed button it open up my text messages. Phone seems sluggish for several seconds and then it works fine.

I get this message too, but always after I have just downloaded a new app from the Android market. I have it set to add new icons to the home screen. I think the error is caused by the browser trying to update the home screen after a new icon has been added. I'm using Go Launcher Pro. Once I agree to the forced close, everything works fine.

I hope this info helps folks figure this out!

Finally a thread with my problem. This started happening to me late last week and until this thread I haven't been able to find anything online related to this problem.

As stated by the others, when I press the application button (I think Motorola calls this the "application tray button") and then press the search button, I am met with the exception "The application Homescreen (process com.motorola.home) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and a button "Force close" is offered.

The odd (and consistent) thing is that when I press "Force close", it opens the last application I had open - even if I had closed or exited that application. The next time I try to go to the home screen, the icons are missing and it appears to have to restart and re-initialize the home screen application.

I don't remember what happened prior to me getting this error - I don't remember installing any applications that immediately triggered the error to start. Hopefully Motorola or someone can come up with a quick fix that doesn't include restoring the phone to the factory settings.

I have the same problem. I go into Apps, press the Search key, and boom, I get the same error message. When I select "Force close," it goes back to the last opened app like IAHawk stated. I thought it might be caused by an update to an app, so I closed all of the apps (in fact, everything except the OS running.) I still received the same error. Hopefully someone figures out an answer.

In looking around, it appears that the latest Google Search app update (1.3.3.247963) is the culprit. Went to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Google Search>Uninstall Updates to uninstall that update. Search in Apps now works!
