Help Hosed By Firmware Update (RCA Pro10

RCA Pro 10 RCT6203W46, Purchased in November. Have actually been mostly happy with it... until last night.

Message came up that there was a Firmware update available. Sure enough, double-checking online, there is one (been out for a bit, surprising I just last night got the notice). So I click to install it. It began downloading, then said it would restart to install. As the screen was blanking out, I could just make out some text that included the word "error"... but also, could do nothing at that point to stop it.

Upon reboot (the normal RCA screen appeared), then this:

I have tried every option I could try. I have searched all over for a firmware file that is downloadable to put on the MicroSD or to cross-load it. Nope. Even "wipe data/factory reset" has no effect, other than it returns back to this screen afterwards. Further - nothing will turn it off, except sticking a pin in the "RESET" hole on the back near the volume button.

I'm at my whits end. This isn't the first Android tablet I have had get hosed by a firmware update (previous was an ASUS product).

Anyone have any great solutions? Otherwise, I'm going to exercise the warranty options (I did purchase the extended protection when I bought it). Sigh... lots of data gone.

I talked to RCA yesterday (10/20/2015). Here is what they told me: if your tablet is working fine without
any glitches, you don't need the firmware update. So don't worry about it.

LOL, then RCA should give you the option to bypass the installation and not remind you with nag popups or notifications, eh? :p

FYI, regardless of what Android device or version you have: if you have rooted your device, do NOT attempt to install an over-the-air update (not saying that this was the case for the OP here, but just in case...).
