Help Hotmail Activesync Problems

Hi,

I have a strange problem with Hotmail on the Desire S.

I can set it up no problem using Exchange Activesync as described on multiple sites. The phone syncs fine with the server first time. However, when I make any changes on the phone, i.e delete an email, or read an email, this is not reflected on the server and hence at the next sync, the email that was deleted is redownloaded and the email that was previously read is marked as new.

If i make changes on the server, i.e the hotmail site, these are updated on the phone no problem.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

I can't offer any real help, but to say that I have both my YAHOO and GOOGLE mail accounts syncing fine, without this problem..

Although this is using IMAP/POP3 mail sync (settings->Accounts & sync) and not activesync.

I ve got the exact same issue you've described on my desire s. Fresh out of the box last night, I'm quite dissapointed by this, having just switched from iphone 3g where exchange sync worked perfectly across calenders, mail and contacts.

Imap/POP3 no good because on hotmail you get the same problem as emails you delete on the phone do not delete on the server, thus you end up looking at them twice when you login using your computer. Which totally defeats the objective of having email on the go.

Anyone have any suggestions / hints on this? I'm going straight back to iphone if i cant get this sorted in 2 weeks!

I have two business exchange accounts that work perfectly. Gmail also works no problem, it's the Activesync part of Hotmail that is letting it down.

I've done a bit more experimenting and found that the calendar does not work either. If I create an event on the phone (in the hotmail account), then this is not reflected online.

I can however, move items between folders on the phone and this is reflected online.

Not a solution more of a workaround.

Create another google email account and forward your hotmail to it and then sync that to your phone (as we know that this works). You could also migrate your calendar data from hotmail to the same google account.


I do wonder whether google have made this problem so that more people jump from the Microsoft boat altogether!

same here. could it just be that microsoft hasn't approved the latest software? as seems silly the options their for microsoft eas and it not be available to work.

I think it's a problem with the HTC mail app. I have downloaded 'improved email' from the store (it's free) and hotmail works fine, calendar and contacts too.

I have this exact same issue. Hotmail = no good, but both my Gmail accounts are fine as well as my company Exchange account. Makes absolutely no sense (ha!) to me. Really frustrating though.

i know there was gonna be problem with syncing hotmail stuff, so i didint do it.

What i have done is this, really simple and nearly efective.

on the homescreen I have added web bookmark shortcut for hotmail email, and another shortcut for the hotmail calender.

Only problem is that i wont be nofitifed of emails or appointments. However its quick and easy as there are (as explained above) direct bookmark shortcuts for each.

No syncing fuss.
