Hotmail unread mail

I've added my hotmail account to my mail app but every time I load it up all the emails it has pulled down are unread (read on the server), any way to mark them as whatever they're marked as on the server?
 
I gave up on using the pop email to extract my hotmail. I had it set at 15 minutes, then changed it to 1 hour, but the pull was very inconsistent. Sometimes it wouldn't show new email for days. I just reverted to the webmail version, much easier / accurate.

I think MSN / hotmail / live.com does not like to play well with Android.
