Help Hotspot in USA & Europe?

Is there a way to turn the Droid 3 into a hotspot in Europe? If I travel, and get a SIM card, would it be possible to somehow get hotspot functionality without tethering & USB? Any legal means?

I'm also interested in knowing if this is possible in Europe? I see you are going to Greece? I am going tomorrow and am also wondering about options for getting a Greek SIM card for phone and data that isn't outrageously expensive. Can you post back here with recommendations for a Greek SIM card as well as any info you get on the hotspot capability?

Chris

From what I gather, we can just get a prepaid SIM card and it would work. You first have to call Verizon and have them unlock the SIM slot (there is another thread here that explains better). I have not called Verizon for this yet, yikes!

I'm hoping the SIM cards would give Data capabilities. That way I can use Skype or something at least as well as email. Data is more valuable nowadays than stinking "voice", lol. (and they know it, hence the data caps, etc!).

If all else fails, I'm going to quiz Verizon about the Vodafone SIM that is in here already. But I've read that we must call Verizon to turn that card "on" before traveling. Regardless, I'd like to get the SIM unlocked for any carrier as my first choice.

What I don't understand is how the Hotspot feature would work in Greece or Europe.

So, I called Verizon Global Support this evening and they provided me with the 8-digit unlock code to use on my Droid 3 when I stick in the Greek SIM card. I've been looking at Wind, OTE and Cosmote, but I find the sites a bit confusing in terms of their offerings and the actual costs.

Someone told me they use Cosmote when they go. It's supposed to be reliable and cheap.
I gotta call Verizon for unlock code too when I get a chance.
