Root hotspot question

successfully rooted my phone last summer.- had wireless hotspot functions. last week i tried to us that same function, for the first time in quite some time and now it appears i can no longer use it. limited access is what shows up in my wireless networks available under android network.

so the question is simple , did sprint update my phone with software that disabled this feature or is the service no longer available? s is off

The service is still available. The question is did you take the phone into Sprint and they updated it? did you accept an OTA? Have you done anything else to the phone recently (flashed kernel?)

If not, try to get into recovery and simply wipe dalvik cache and cache.


If you are still on the stock ROM, I would just try and flash a ROM such as MikG that is an upgrade over the stock ROM and also already ahs the hotspot hack baked in.
 
no i didn't take phone into sprint and as far as i know did not accept any recent updates. trouble is i use the feature so infrequently that i have no ideal how long the service has been unavailable. on the scale of months and not weeks thats for sure. all i have done so far is uninstall and re-install wifi app. as a novice i am not sure to do what you instructed me to do but will research it and attempt. thanks

If you go to Settings -> About phone -> Software Information, can you report what it says (or post a screenshot, perhaps)? Especially under "Software Version".
 
wiped both caches and when i still don't have hotspot data function. computer does see the wifi but no data is transferred.
