Lurker
guess that's why they call it sin city..... hahaha.
my name is Cody. I'm 21. I live in Texas...blah blah blah.

the real reason i'm here is to get the scoop on my motorola devour.
i love this phone so much.... im big into the social networking.
due to the fact that i do alot of promotions with unsigned local bands, and facebook/twitter/whatever else is the easiest way for me to do so.

BUT!

this phone will turn on and off randomly.
delete ALL contacts.
not to mention, i would like to tweek it? or whatever its called when you can make it better.
i purchased the phone in May-ish of this year.
i do live in a shitty service area, and ive noticed that it does the turn on/turn off thing ONLY when i have 0-1 bar signal.

HOWEVER!!!!!
phone is excellent for the social networking. big fan of the motoblur. big fan on the syncing it does. i have all twitter and facebook buddies in my phone, and i like the fact that to get ahold of or in touch with someone, all you do is touch the screen. PHONE IS AMAZING...when i have good service and im getting the 3G coverage.

so what im trying to get at, is what steps can i take to make my phone better in every aspect? speed, signal, memory, customization, etc.

also: is it true that if you have the android system, that you have the same access to applications that say a droid user would have?

Welcome to Android Forums! I'll move this to where more people will see it.

thanks for the welcomes!

and yeah, ive read about the rooting.... just scared that i will mess something up horribly wrong.

=[.

i can do just about anything on a computer, and yes i realize that these phones are a mini laptop, but im scared to tweek with it.

i understand completely. best thing to do is backup everythign you can. once you start to root, the best part is if you F your phone software wise it is almost always easily fixable. i was also scared to hell and once i did it i was glad i had and felt a bit silly about being so apprihensive. if you are that comfortable using computers, this will come pretty easily to understand what your doing.

ok. not to sound like a n00b, but does my phone have have to be hooked up to a computer to root it?

yes. depending on the root method you need to be able to make folders/transfer files to it, or run an updater prog with modified file. i dont think there is any device that can root by itself...
