How can AT&T claim to be the fastest mobile broadband network...

...when they are the only one of the four major carriers not to have an active 4G network. Their HSPA+ network isn't live yet, and their LTE network will take longer to spread.

in the greater bay area i find AT&T to get a faster speed than sprint and tmobiles 4g

that being said verizon has no 4g devices (aside from the modem) to compare yet.

and the HSPA+ is up and running just the phones arent capable yet so your incorrect there

AT&T’s HSPA+ is NOT actually active…

I get speeds faster than my DSL and Sprint's WiMax (at least in my area) on AT&T's 3G

AT&T 3G maxes out at 7.2 Mbps and I've gotten into the 8-9 Mbps ranges on Sprint 4G.

dude A) your area might not have it, B) california is a horrible area for AT&T cant deny that hopefully they will fix that soon

I beg to differ. AT&T's 3G coverage is great here. I just guess they don't have 4G here yet. They haven't announced their launched markets yet so it takes trial to see where it's at. I'd be mad if they didn't launch here since some of their 4G devices look rather enticing compared to my EPIC with 1080p, dual-cores, 960x540 Super LCD and Super AMOLED Plus display, etc. Sprint launched a dumbed-down EVO with a keyboard and hasn't announced any new devices yet.

well thats great to hear alot of people in cali always crap on AT&T and its nice to hear different it is possible that it hasnt been turned on yet there, hopefully soon though as these phones will be arriving the latest march 1st

Att doesnt have 4g.

And the evo shift is currently the fastest phone on the market.

AT&T has them on their website. I know they haven't been released yet. The Shift has an 800 MHz processor while the EPIC has a 1 GHz processor. I also would miss the front-facing camera. A number of my friends either own the EVO or the iPhone 4 (and use Tango), and a couple own the EPIC. Hell, one of them even uses Tango on their Motorola Backflip.

Testing from San Jose, CA I got around 2 Mbps down and a disappointing 100-200 Kbps up.

getting 3mbps on my dell streak in fremont.

AT&T is actually pretty good in cali, some places are bad though (though every carrier has their rough spots)

for example, the AT&T i work at is in pleasanton CA (where 2 of AT&T's main HQ's are) and the coverage is not as good as most places.

the situation is interesting though...AT*T wants to build towers in the certain rough spots but some of the residents protest it for god knows why lol.

It is pretty much the same processor found on the myTouch 4G/Desire HD only clocked at 800MHz instead of 1GHz. You can read about Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform here (these two chips fall under the second generation of Qualcomm chips)- Qualcomm Products and Services - The Snapdragon? Platform

It is the same processor than that which is found on the THC G2/Acer Liquid Metal and both of those phones received stable overclock kernels working up to 1.4GHz (some even higher than that).

HSPA+ should yield AT LEAST 3 Mbps down, but true HSPA+ devices can go beyond that 7.2 Mbps limit. Those uplink speeds don't look like HSPA+ to me.

True, but even if in an HSDPA+ service area, if signal is degraded, throughput performance will suffer.

Thats because leftist looneys dont use logic and reason example... My cell service sucks, "response by AT&T we will put up more towers and build infrastructure" response no way thats bad for environment and will degrade the natural area.

Example number two... Gas prices are freakin out of control...response lets drill in the USA being that we have over 30 years worth of reserves ...response no WAY that will harm the environment...reality all the other nations drill here but we cant

this is all their failed logic and this is why things dont get done

Sorry but I don't see the connection to how this can possibly be political.

did you read his post? it was about AT&T wanting to put up towers and the people who complain about the service then complaining they dont want the towers, why do you think that is because their idiots or because there is political motivation?

just wanted to add that clock speed isnt everything either. Try comparing a p 3 at 2 ghz and a p4 at 1.5 ghz and tell me which is faster.

I did not know that. Speed tests I've seen were around 3 down.

Regardless, I'm getting a over 3 down and 1 pretty much throughout the greater Houston area.

Which is tons better than Tmobile's 3G in Houston. I would get 1.5 up and around 700kb down on a regular basis and even worse in Stafford where I live. Their shotty service was the main reason I switched to AT&T.

Ohhhh my apologies. I kinda read it in traffic and responded in traffic (GMail/Phandroid app). Did not see the post you quoted and assuming AT&T were the ones hesitating to build towers.

I apologize.

And yes, I agree. There are many people out there who have no idea wtf they want. Whether it be protesting drilling THEN protesting gas prices or protesting signal strength THEN protesting building cellular towers. I guess they just like to complain about shit whether or not it matters to them.
