How can AT&T claim to be the fastest mobile broadband network...

Ohhhh my apologies. I kinda read it in traffic and responded in traffic (GMail/Phandroid app). Did not see the post you quoted and assuming AT&T were the ones hesitating to build towers.

I apologize.

And yes, I agree. There are many people out there who have no idea wtf they want. Whether it be protesting drilling THEN protesting gas prices or protesting signal strength THEN protesting building cellular towers. I guess they just like to complain about shit whether or not it matters to them.

yea we know those kinds there everywhere on this forum in our neighborhoods at our jobs and in government lol its so sad but true lol

Which is tons better than Tmobile's 3G in Houston. I would get 1.5 up and around 700kb down on a regular basis and even worse in Stafford where I live. Their shotty service was the main reason I switched to AT&T.

i totally feel ya. I tried tmobile for a bit when i bought the nexus it is shoooooottttty makes me laugh when i hear the AT&T haters and tmobile zealots

Dude once again your not listening. unless you have a data card you wont be able to utilize the speeds but when you will be able too it will be 21 mbps more than sprints wimax can push

LMAO so your really going to compare a fully antenna/powered aircard to a phone's miniturized wimax system?

Compare apples to apples man when I had Clear @ home I was pushing between 7-12mbps!

And there is NO aircard that will get you over 21mbps. Your nuts if you believe that. ATT LANDLINE barely reaches those speeds (in VERY FEW select spots!)

ATT is lucky to hit over 10mbps on their fastest DSL.

No the air cards now barely reach the 14.4 I agree but I believe that wimax as it is now will not reach the eventual 21mbps of at&t

So your comparing Sprints current technologies to future technologies of ATT, am I getting that correct?

Unless ATT ramps up their backbone, (i.e. DSL has to hit over 21mbps first!) it doesn't matter what air interface you use, they won't reach any of these speeds your talking about.

HSPA+ runs at 14.4 Mbps max, not 21 Mbps. And how is AT&T claiming they're faster now based on what they will be able to do in the future?

I believe it will be 21 Mbps when AT&T turns on LTE.

And Sprint will be deploying the WiMax 2.0 upgrade to compete.

It was my understanding that T-Mo has plans for 100Mbs+ using current tech/infrastructure, with 21Mbs "Mi-fi" routers scheduled for a March release. Is that not HSPA+?

These are all plans, and not the current state of T-Mobile's network. In the today and now, AT&T has the slowest mobile broadband network out of the four major carriers due to it's lack of 4G.

T-Mobile's current HSPA+ network maxes out at 21 Mbps according to them, but the HTC G2 and the HTC MyTouch 4G are limited by hardware to 14.4 Mbps. Why cripple your 4G phones, T-Mobile?

Back to the title of this thread, the only time I have ever heard AT&T say they had the fastest mobile broadband network was back when all carriers had 3G (which at the time was true).

When have they claimed "fastest mobile broadband network" after WiMax/LTE rolled out?

On their main page, it says "4G: 4x Faster Than AT&T's Already Fast Mobile Broadband"

If you have evidence of AT&T claiming to have the fastest mobile broadband network AFTER the release of WiMax by Sprint, please provide it.

Have you not seen any recent AT&T television ads? Here are some examples:

Wow, no I never noticed that they said that.

Thanks for that.

I guess their marketing department is rethinking possible.

last I checked the DSL was speced for 6 mbps max >.>;

I've seen uverse ads for up to 12mbps.

So if att landline is having a hard time keeping up with my wireless WiMax, how the hell does anyone expect their air interface to do any better?

uverse is fiber optics and goes up to 24mbps+ (should you decide to shell out the cash) ;)

on topic,

I think AT&T slogan is a little weird. "the fastest mobile broadband network is getting faster." I think AT&T needs to wait until they fully launch their 4g/4g devices before they do any claims. It gets a little old when customers come in the store and ask me why their iphone 4 isnt getting 4g speeds yet lol....

Right now, the best 4g network id have to say is sprints. It has a lot more coverage (they have been out the longest and developing since) and obvious they get the faster speeds.

No one can say how verizons LTE is right now because there are no devices (other than USB modems) that work on it. Those USB modems are getting 10mbps average (according to reviews). The sad thing is that its on a super new - uncrowded network. and the fact that its a USB modem means that the actual cell phones will get a slower speed because of the antenna difference as IOWA stated in a post above.

I wont comment on TMos 4g because I do not know anyone that uses it.

this whole 4g thing is getting kind of annoying and over rated...while having 10mbps download is great, I think in the end it will cause more trouble:

faster speeds mean people will use more data which means carriers will start putting caps (just like AT&T did) on their plans and start charging for tiered plans which leaves a horrible taste in my mouth
