Help How can i free up space on Wildfire?

in the last couple of days a message comes up on my wildfire saying that space is low so i have taken some apps off to free up space but i am still getting that message.

so how can i free up space on it?

i have put all the apps that i can onto sd card but i can see anything that i can take off now and i dont have that many apps on there anyway.
 
Download App2SD it shows & notifies when apps can be moved to your SD card, and it can clear cache stored in your phone.

I suspect that the lack of memory is due to the build up of cache from some apps that you have.
When you download App2SD follow these steps
Open App2SD>Menu>Clear Cache
Check your phone memory after, keep us notified if there is still a lack of memory

i have looked and there are a few of them under that name so is he one that i need to download made by sam Lu?

Ok i installed the app you gave me and moved some apps to SD card and cleared cache and now i have about 31MB on the phone and 1.61GB on the sd card.

I have dl (downloaded) App2SD and run it, only 1 dl app could be moved to sd. There is a lot of space on my sd card (1.6 gb) and almost none on my phone (14 mb). I have tried running the wizard that came standard with my phone but it can't move anything. None of the aps on the phone will allow for moving to sd. I have tried force stopping the apps to move them, but it hasn't worked. I told it to "Clean all application cache", In Application Storage I selected "Move to SD card" but it says "Nothing to move" and I can't proceed with the wizard.

I know FB and Hotmail aps can't be moved to sd card, but thought my Flashlight & similar aps would have been able to be moved.

Also, can I go somewhere in the settings to tell the phone to save all future aps to the sd card?

Your help is much appreciated!

Ok it appears to me your not rooted so it makes it easier for me to reach my verdicts
First try this, turn of your device, pull out the battery, wait for 5 mins, put it back then turn on your device.
Then using App2SD or the default wizard of the Wildfire, try to move your apps to your SD card.
What apps are they specifically, could you name like 3?

If that doesnt work then maybe its the data from previously uninstalled apps? Data from existing apps?
Sense ROMs like yours tend to consume alot of internal memory, randomly you might find out that you've lost 5MB to storage of hidden files, its just how the Sense ROM operates and you cant do anything about it.

For these steps you might need to have an empty SD card if your using a 2GB one (just backup your stuff to your computer) or a 4GB+ will be fine

Download Astro File Manager and backup your apps. Open Astro>[Menu]>Tools>Application Manager/Backup
Then tap the small box across from 'backup', it will select all apps available for backup
When you've successfully backed up all your apps, *uninstall all of them one by one and note the ones which use alot of memory, and also check which ones can be moved to your SD card or not. I would download App2SD first

OR

Download MyBackup (The steps are straight forward and it has the option to backup to your data aswell) I prefer this application for backing up apps, then do the steps i mentioned before*

So, no my phone is not rooted. It is running the OS that came with it. My internal memory capacity is 150mb, there is now 35mb available. The only apps I have dl are:
1) Facebook version 1.7.2
Total: 12.63mb, Application 5.56mb, Data 7.07mb, Cache 0mb

2) Medibank version 1.1.1
Total 4.87mb, App 3.91mb, Data 0.96mb, Cache 0mb

3) Youtube version 2.3.4
Total 3.46mb, App 3.34mb, Data 0.16mb, Cache 0mb

4) Dosage Calc version 1.1
Total 0.232mb, App 0.116mb, Data 0.116mb, Cache 0mb

5) ANZ Internet Banking version 1.0
Total 0.16mb, App 0.16mb, Data 0mb, Cache 0mb

As far as I'm aware, all music & pics are stored on the SD not in the phone? I don't know what is chewing up all the memory because if you add up all the totals of dl apps it only comes to 21.35mb.

Other info I have found that may be of use:
Android version 2.3.3
HTC Sense version 2.1
Software number 1.52.841.2

Ahh i see wow, thats something.
While i think of a solution, download this app DiskUsage, it shows you whats taking up your memory. Dont worry its on 144kb, it wont take much data

Ok if its not the apps/data thats causing it, then maybe its a system-related problem, im rarely stuck on ideas but i am atm ><
 
Ok - installed Astro & after backing up all downloaded apps EXCEPT Astro & App2SD, my free space is now 53mb.

1 solution I can easily think of is to only dl apps that can be stored to SD... but so far most I have come across don't mention this (I am only a new user to Android Market).

Hopefully you might have a suggestion though :)

So even the app/data didnt give you that back data back.
That is very true, but there may be those apps which you will use alot, but you cant move it to your sd card, the best you can do is nag the developer relentlessly until he/she makes the app able to be moved to the sd card

Since your using a Wildfire S, there maybe lots of extra apps that were pre-installed that are taking up your memory. Apps like HTC Hub, friend stream, HTC likes, latitude, places, stocks.
All these apps might be taking quite a chunk of your data,
Do you happen to use any of them?
 
Ok, dl DiskUsage & it says that 89.3mb is being used by apps! But that must be the standard apps that came with the phone? Because I have not re-installed the apps I deleted after backing them up with Astro. Anyway, out of the apps, the original FaceBook is taking up 22.8mb of space (as data). I am not sure of the graph that DiskUsage is showing... but I think most of the 89.3mb is data (because it is coloured brown and is beside the blue coloumn which says Applications 89.3mb).

Yes, those apps are on the phone. I don't use the HTC Hub, Friends Stream, HTC like etc... I didn't realise I could remove those apps! Now... can Astro back up those apps (as in the ones that came pre-installed on the phone) to my SD card? Because if it can... I am very happy to delete them knowing if I ever did need them I could re-install them later?

If you say yes... I will be so happy & give you a virtual hi-5 and hug! :D

WOW 22.8MB of space? If i were you, i'd delete it and use the mobile version, but we're different people
The blue coloured bits are just the names of the section/app, the brown part is the data/application that makes up the total data, for instance. Dolphin Browser (an app) - 3.41MB for data /1.57MB for app = 4.98MB total memory usage

Yh as i assumed its probably the pre-installed apps and the system apps
The ROM you are using (HTC Sense), that specific ROM is known to frequently consume memory that you cant get back by its bloatware (pre-installed stuff you dont use)

Aww sorry, they are system application :(
Those apps sadly, you cant remove them... BUT, you can clear its data without anything happen to your phone, and you cant back them up sadly (since they're system apps)
I wouldnt mind the hi-5 and the hug though :p

Seriously you are a gem! I deleted the data from the Facebook for HTC & have 75mb free... so will now go and check other pre-loaded apps that I don't use!

I don't reckon I will be rooting my phone any time soon though ;) I would probably break it!

hey...can anyone tell me if i use an 8gb memory card for my htc wildfire s will it support the card?????will it be slow or get stuck if i use an 8gb card??????
 
Hi,

According to gsmarena.com, and some other reviews on youtube, it supports up to 32GB micro SD card, so it should work fine with 8GB, without being stuck, slow or anything else.
If anyone else knows any reason why it shouldn't work, please respond.

Have been enduring similar problems so have printed off all of the above thread to digest over a glass (or 3) of cold beer, prior to pulling my hair out!
