Root How can i revert from 2.2 to 2.1?!

i updated my htc legend to 2.2 but i HATE it. so laggy, keyboard is slow, i really miss the speed of 2.1. is there any way I can go back to 2.1? I'm not rooted but if it's the only way i might consider it. I'm a noob at android so i have no idea how rooting or w/e works keep in mind :s

Please take half an hour free and read this forum. Look for info about 2.2/FroYo running slow and solutions how to solve it.

P.S. i could have written everything in this post.. But learning how "looking for information" works will save you a lot of pain in the future
