Help How can I skip installing a Marshmallow download?

Hi,

I've just joined, so be gentle with me.

I made the mistake of downloading what I thought was an update to Lollipop on my Galaxy S5 but it turned out to be an upgrade to Marshmallow. Now it keeps prompting me to install it but I don't want it. I'm perfectly happy with the existing version and I just know that if I give in and install the upgrade everything on the GUI will change. I'm an old codger, set in my ways, and I'd just like to stick with what I know.

So my question is how can I remove the download and stop it from nagging me to install it?

IF, the carrier is AT&T or Verizon............

you are out of luck.... the boot loader is locked.

I too, am an ole codger and I reverted back to a rooted Note 4 on 4.4.4
 
No, it's neither of them. I'm in the UK and on a pay-as-you-go SIM from a company called Talk Mobile which is a MVNO using the Vodafone network.
If I get really desperate I suppose I could try a factory reset, but I'd rather not have to set up my accounts and email client again from scratch if I don't have to.
 
a FDR will NOT revert the OS back to the previous version. It will only erase all of the data on your phone, and the apps.... and cause you a lot of misery just to get back to where you are now.... and the same exact OS will still be on the phone.

You need to flash an older version of the ROM, but I don't have the expertise to help you "o'er the pond"
 
Hi AZgl1500, you seem to have misunderstood. I haven't installed Marshmallow and the phone is still running Lollipop so all I'm looking to do is get rid of the nag screen with the Install button.

The phone only has the apps that came with Lollipop, I bought it SIM-free and haven't added any (apart from Avast antivirus which I can easily add again). Other than that my data only consists of a few photos and music files all of which are on my PC.

There's actually very little change to the UI with Android 6.0x other than a freshening-up of the iconography. You stand to lose more by not upgrading the OS e.g. current security patches and improved battery life due to Doze.
 
Hey guys, I too am an old codger (very close to 88). I used Lollipop for a year and didn't have any problems. However, recently bought a new phone that came with Marshmallow, 6.0.1 and I like even better than Lollipop.

Maybe you should try it.
 
Try using the free NoRoot Firewall app from the playstore to determine where the upgrade request is coming from and block the requests.using the app.

Your right about the bootloader being locked on verzion. If rooted and you change the startup animation it won't finish booting, on my vk810 tablet anyway. Never will own anything branded verzion again.
 
.. replying quite late... first what you could try is long press the notification, it should tell you exactly what application it is and once you know the application you can go to the settings and find it under "apps" or applications" depending on how is shows on your device(make sure it is also showing 'system' apps). Once you find it you can delete the downloaded up-date by clearing the apps data and after that you can force stop the app. You might not be able to disable it though.

I know it's not a permanent fix but it'll remove that notification and delete the update which also means that it won't be taking up valuable storage.

Ahh thanks, also when I was in the same page as OP and didnt want to upgrade from lollipop to MM I was able to find the source/app that received the update and I was able to stop it. Eventually like the OP I also upgraded
