How can I tell when Eris is done formatting SD card?

How can I tell when Eris is done formatting SD card? I tried formatting 16GB SD card using Eris. I'd umount then format. But no way to tell if Eris is done. No confirmation from Eris. Is this normal? And if so how long should I wait for Eris to finish?

The reason I ask is I gave up on Eris & formatted using my PC (PCLinuxOS & GParted). I'm getting freezes & weirdness. And I read I should format my SD using my Eris. Oh a friend has an HTC Incredible. Could I format my SD in the Incredible?

Ok good info. Also is it normal to get no confirmation from Eris that the format is completed?

Last time I formatted the SD card in my Eris I couldn't tell that any thing happened and it wouldn't mount on my computer. A second format worked. Weird and frustrating but it finally worked.
