How DO Disable Network And Leave Phone On Wi-Fi Only?

Midna

My phone is on both and I'm afraid I am getting charged for Internet and stuff when I only want to use Wi-FI only? I only want to use the netowkr when outside the house.

It depends on what phone you have. But you should be able to to go into settings, network, and deselect "3G" and that will turn network data off. You can still use wi-fi.

This may prevent MMS from coming through, so you may need to turn on 3G back for MMS.

Some models call it "Mobile Network", as well. And some don't have this feature, like my old Droid X.

if you still want to get phone calls go to the settings and uncheck "mobile data"

If you dont care to get any texts and calls during this time then you go to Settings>Networks/Connections>Airplane mode. THEN you will most likely have to turn your wifi [back] on. (airplane mode will usually sever ALL connections when first activated)

I'm a newbie here, but think I have an answer for this.

I have a Tmobile Sidekick 4G and was having the same problem. I have a prepaid plan that this phone was eating minutes. Mostly due to Data automatically sent via the apps I had.

Here,s what I did.

Very Simply change the VPN to a non working VPN. I added a number to my original address which made it a non exsistent internet address!

I tested it out by checking my minutes #999#, Viewed Videos on youtube via wifi, Shut wifi down and tried youtube again and got "There is no network connection right now. Please try again later"

Checked my minutes again and it's atill the same.

The only problem I have is with text free. I still get minutes deducted when using this on WIFI.

Otherwise, My phone works great!!!

I hope this works for other Android phones and helps prepaid users !!

If your phone has wifi calling like my SGS4G wifi calling and text will use minutes or text bucket. Our old Nokia has UMA and that will use minutes also.

If you're at home, wifi is connected and showing in that notif bar you're not using carrier-data at all, unless you get an mms and I don't think those count towards your limit. when you're on wifi, your 3G/4G/E data icon will not show unless actively receiving an mms.

If you really don't want to get calls texts or anything besides use wifi like someone said, airplane mode, then turn wifi back on since airplane shuts it off.

If it's not CDMA you just remove the simcard.
If it's CDMS I think there is a setting to leave WiFi on all the time. It's in the WiFi sleep policy.
