Help How do i add/delete words in the dictionary?

Thanks for your reply

Downloaded that zipped folder and am using fileslick

Do I copy the zipped folder or the files within it to system/app?

Inside system/app are all "apk" files

I'm not sure which zipped folder you are referring to.

In the first post on that thread I linked to there is a link to download an apk file called AxT9IME.apk

That is what you need.

Yes that's it. When I download it it's a zipped folder and not an akp. Could you also recommend a free file explorer to use? Cheers

If your phone is rooted you can download and use the S2 keyboard, available here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18982027

You need to copy it to the system/app folder using a root explorer.

Right got it now. Its weird though as if I download on pc its a zip file but if I do it from phone its an apk file

Ive got a file program but have another problem now. The system/app folder is 'read only' so it wont allow me to copy the apk file into it

I can't copy it to system either. Have tried a couple of file managers. But if I click on the file it asks if I want to install it, can I just install it and it will work?

Are you guys rooted?

If not, you need to be in able to copy to the system folder. If you are, then check your settings in the file manager app - there is often a setting you need to tick to allow you full root access from within the app (it's a kind of safety measure to stop noobs from breaking their phone.)

This is the message I get when using fileslick

I grant it root access but no other setting after that

Hi there! I am not sure how text messages work on your phone but I went to a text message, clicked the text box as if I were going to start typing a new message, at the lower left corner of my keyboard there is a settings wheel, I clicked that and there is XT9 advanced settings (making sure Xt9 is checked off), I clicked Xt9 advanced settings and then there is an option for XT9 my words. There should be a whole list of words you may have previously added. You can then add new words by clicking your options button (or whatever the button is called next to your little house button on your phone). I hope this is of some use, sorry if it doesn't help though.

Ive never used it but using an app wont void your warranty. To install it, search for it in Play Store. To set it as your keyboard, tap Menu on the phone, go to Language And Input, scroll down to Keyboards And Input Methods, tick/check the box to the right of the keyboard name, tap Default, select the keyboard you wana use.
Its an international forum btw mate. Lots of UK peeps here :)

hello
after almost one day, i succeed in adding a new word in galaxy s3 dictionary.
i also using t9 for many years now, and after easy-predictive s2, s3 seems to me imposible.
to delete words, it's very simple: long press on the word you want to delete, and xt9 will ask you if you want to delete it.
to add words...this is a different story; you must turn on the qwerty keybord, on landscape screen, write the new word, press space bar, and the word is added. now, you can go back to xt9, because the word was added in the dictionary.
i hope you will find this usefull :)

This is the keyboard you mean. Want this one back myself but having no luck what so ever!

The long-press method doesn't work on my Galaxy Tab 2.

I only have one Jellybean device so I haven't tried this on multiple devices yet, but here's what I did:

Settings > Language and input > the little cog next to Samsung keyboard.

The second item in the list is "Predictive text". Instead of tapping the switch to toggle it on or off, I tapped the phrase itself. Another menu opened, second to last on that menu was "My word list". Tapped that, and I got the list of all the typos I've made, as well as the usernames for my different online accounts and hashtags. You can choose which words to retain and delete. This way I was able to remove a bunch of them at the same time.

Hi - I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 recently updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.2

My problem is that i can no longer find how to add/delete words to the dictionary. I'm using the default Samsung keyboard and English (UK) language.

I've searched through Settings > Language and Input > Samsung Keyboard, but can't find how to access the dictionary.

I'm pretty sure i've been through all the settings, but maybe just missing something.

After plenty of searches on forums, i can't find anyone else having the same problems and all answers / routes now seem to be out of date and not matching my phone.

Any ideas? Cheers!
I use a sg s3 this should do ive an option called indian keyboard along with the samsung keyboard
Go to language and input
Press on indian keyboard or the alternative that you have
long press on predictive text
My word list and add
Hope this solves the problem

So, I found a workaround of sorts...

Go into Gmail and send yourself an email with the words you want added to your dictionary. From that point forward, those words should be in there.

I tested with an email to myself where I typed the words 3 times each, but I'm not sure I really needed to type them multiple times.

Edit: never mind... this didn't stick. After a restart the words are gone. Just BS!

Perfect thankyou.

I'd be interested if anyone knows exactly when words are added because it seems like sometimes they are not?

I've found the solution!
It seems there is no longer 'a place' to edit words as you used to in ICS.

To edit, start typing in a new message. When a word comes up in the predictive area you want to remove, simply long-press it. A dialogue box will then ask if you want to remove it from learned words.

I think all words you use that aren't already in the dictionary are automatically added.

It's a little different, but i guess it works.

first off I'd like to say swype sucks!!! and I figured out how to add words you have to turn your phone to the side and spell it with the normal keyboard then when you hit the space button it'll ask if you'd like to add the word you type it to the dictionary tap on ad and it will add it and then it will be on your t9 keyboard t9 rocks sorry but it really doesand the S 3 it's just an amazing phone

Thanks for the tip. It's brilliant. I have an S4 and it's the same.
I love the phone and love Android problem is there are so many hidden gems you have to fish for. Slight bugbear is the inconsistency standard ringtones even if they are the same brand ie Samsung ie between S2 and S4 both running on Jellybean

WHen i go to my settings - language and input , I choose Sywpe keyboard settings - Personalization - Edit dictionary to delete unwanted saved words. and when I'm typing, I type the word I want in there press it in the predictive area and choose save to dictionary.

I've been having the same problems with my predictive text. I could never type the word 'the' using swype and I also never knew how to delete all those gobbledeguck words I've managed to save there. I was able to delete those words using the long press, thanks for the tip.

I have now managed to reset my predictive words. I clicked on Keyboard Settings and long pressed Predictive Text. This opens up a new window and in there I unticked 'Live word update' and 'Personalised data' and then re-ticked them. I also cleared 'Remote Data' and clicked on 'Learn from Messages'. I now have 'the' appearing in my predictive words...a big bug bear finally sorted! :smokingsomb:

When a word pops up that is wrong do not release your finger from the screen. The wrong word will be blue in the suggested words. With another finger, press and hold on the wrong (blue) word. The option to "remove" will pop up.

This one works.
