how do i backup my contacts?

Newbie
I just switch from a phone that had backup assistant, very easy to backup. I'm new to a smart phone how do I back up my Droids contacts?

All My data in on Google... so my phone is backed up and I can reach that data and calendar from any computer that online.

You an export from gmail with ease.

Sign in.
On the left hand side column is a link to your Contacts
Click the Contacts link

If you do not see any contacts that you entered in via your phone you probably need to turn on the sync feature of contacts.

Home Screen on your Droid =>
Settings =>
Accounts & Sync

Make sure your Google account is set to sync (the little syncing icon should be green and it will say "Sync is ON" under the account name.

Sync'ing to your Google account is turned on by default, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be sync'ing unless you've messed around in the settings already.

You don't need to back them up, the contacts on your phone are automatically synched with Google. If you want you could go into Gmail on your PC and export your contacts from there.

Well you do. Let's say you sync other apps/devices with google contacts.

If one of them freaks out, those mistakes will be synced back up. So it's just a good idea to do a dump of the contacts every now and then!

You're right - I'm usually the one telling people to back everything up but I've never backed up my contacts - weird and stupid.
 
google sync is checked on the Droid. 168 contacts on my phone but 0 when i get on my computer. I don't know what i'm doing wrong??

So under contacts, options, auto-sync is checked AND you see your gmail account listed below that?

click your gmail and 2x check the options to sync contacts from there!

EDIT: one more thing, get off the contact page on gmail and then come back in.... I was baffled by this with my outlook sync, it just doesn't update if you are on the contact page for some reason in gmail!
 
I hit accounts under sittings. Auto sync and gmail are on. Then i clicked the gmail account and everything is checked there. I hit the settings button and a sync now tab popped up, i tapped it, it synced. Went back to the computer and nothing there yet??? Does it take a little time??
 
I apologize for butting in, but I am having the same problem as you and have followed the same procedures. We must be missing something!
