How do I cache maps?

I recently downloaded the excellent UK Atlas by James McLaren (paid for edition), which provides OS maps at four different scales of the British mainland. I find this works flawlessly although sometimes maps can be a little slow to load, presumably dependent on network speed and availability.

I have read that it is sometimes preferable to cache maps of a specific area prior to travelling there in case of poor network availability. I can understand the advantages of doing this, but I confess that I don't know how to do it!

If anyone has experience of this app, or perhaps similar ones, could you please tell me how I cache maps?

Go into the settings and click "use cache"

Thanks. That's already ticked, in fact I think it was ticked by default.

So does that mean that every map area I view is already cached, or do I need to do something else?

It occurs to me that if I place a marker on a particular area, that map section may be cached. Such map sections load instantly, when I look for markers, compared to 'new' areas. Is that how it works?

Maps loading instantly in UK Atlas isn't related to you putting markers down, it is a result of the automatic caching of any maps you view, which coincides with you having to view a map area to place a marker there.

What skyJ said makes sense. In osmand when using alternate map filed like ms hybrid (satellite), maps are cached (and therefore available for offline viewing) after I view them online. But only at the magnification which I viewed them online. So I have to sweep my view around a city online at different magnifications to get it cached and reasonaby usable offline. While still in range of wifi, I intentionally disconnect to see what I've got, then reconnect for more if need

Just to clarify, if I intend to visit a rural area in the middle of nowhere all I need to do is view the area at the appropriate scale. Then, when I arrive there (and there is no network signal) I shall be able to view the map.

On the other hand, I suppose that adding a marker will make it easier to locate that part of the map, even though it is not necessary to do that to cache the map.

I hope I've got that right.

That sounds sensible. I've just tried disconnecting from wi-fi (and mobile signal) to check it works.
