How Do I Create New Events in Gallery App?

The Xperia Gallery App is clean and works well, however I can't figure out a way to create new events or folders.

Is there w way to view photos in folders separately by events instead of just one big folder organised by date?

I was using an HTC One before, where i could create events, merge events, split events, etc.

Not that I can see unfortunately, the Z1 gallery app is lacking in that regard.

You might be better off using an alternative gallery app like QuickPic or similar?

Aha, QuickPic is a little slow, but I can create new albums within the gallery. After I create the new album, would I be able to view it as newly named folder within the Xperia gallery app? I don't have my Z1 yet, so I can't check.
