Help How Do I Free-up Space On My Internal Memory?

So recently I have had my EVO tell me that I am running out of disk space (Internally), so is there an App or a way I can view my internal files and delete them off. I know I can use the Market to delete Apps and I can use the stock Froyo Manage Applications to remove Apps, but I feel that files I download to my phone are going to my internal memory rather then my SD memory. I hope this makes sense and thanks for all the help! :)
 
I'm having the same issue and ditched some of the little used apps, but I'm not willing to give up any more of my 177 apps. Will deleting old emails and text messages help?

177 apps? Move some of them to your SD card, durrr
 
Not all apps can be moved to the sd card. I have many apps, no where near 177, most of which can not be moved to the sd card.
 
Here's your alternative - I'd recommend you consider it before you're completely out of memory and have to do a hard reset, losing everything, and getting way sad -

1. Get Astro File Manager, if you don't have it already.

2. Immediately use Astro to make a backup - it will snag your downloaded apps and back them up to the SD card.

3. Remove your lesser-used apps - IMMEDIATELY. As many as you can stand.

4. When you need one of those apps, simply launch Astro, go Menu -> Tools and re-install the required app for immediate use. It'll do that VERY QUICKLY.

IOW - play Mission Impossible, think of your apps as agents, and just bring in the ones you need.

If you don't and hit the out-of-memory wall, it'll be too late.

I have ASTRO and I have as many apps as I can moved to my SD card already. According to AppBrain, I have 144 Apps totaling 133MB and according to the Mini Info app, I've used 361MB of internal storage. Would there be a way to view the other files that is taking up a such large chuck of my internal storage?

OK - I was talking about moving apps to the sd card - I was talking about backing them up on the sd card and deleting them - and then re-installing as needed.

As for your other question - I'm not aware of a simple app that lets you see a breakout of memory usage.

Maybe top in an adb shell, but I can't look to see if that's possible until later tonight.
 
here is another option....


ok... for those that are ROOTED and if you are comfortable messing with partitions; Not for the faint of heart.

did you notice all the "lost free space" in System storage and cache??? use "quick systems info" app to see.

You can reclaim that and move it to your internal storage area!!!!!!! this can add up to 150MB back!
I have used it for my Hero and it made it 100% better phone.
they have taken the same mod and tweeked it for the EVO.

I highly suggest you read the whole thread and the links! before you attempt this. I do not take any responsibility in any issues or problems that you might face!

I don't see an option to do back up on astro does it do it automatically
 
My friend today deleted several apps to free up space and he said he was on 70 or 80mb and now he has like 150mb free and he said he deleted several apps on his sd card. That doesn't make sense. I have cleared cache and some data and I only have like 63mb left. I would like to get up to a 100 but I am not worried so much since I am not getting the low disk space message anymore. I want the EVO 3D when it comes out cause of space but would love to clear out more space on here without deleting too many apps. I wish yhese few big ones like Fring, FB and Maps would go to SD card. But how deleting several apps off sd card gave you so much space back I was wondering how that happened? I may delete a few apps I don't use but I would love to have a 100mb left without deleting too much. :-)
 
Root your phone and download darktremor zip from xda. I got 200+ apps all on SD. About 400 MB internal memory on my evo. You can also move your cache to SD or /cache. Make sure you backup everything on your CPU as this will erase everything until you copy everything back to your phone.
 
I was down to 52mb and now I have 116mb all from deleting 2 apps but they were on my sd card. How is that? Google Earth and I had a Yahoo Video Plus that went with the messenger that I never used. Google earth freed up 30 mb on my phone but the app was on my sd card. That confuses me.

Where are you getting that memory readout?

Suggest you try System Panel Lite, free in the Market, likely it will give serious insight. I highly recommend it!!
 
I think I have System Panel Lite! But I was using App 2 SD Card which is what my friend used. He said he deleted several apps from card and on phone it told him he had lots more space so I did the same thing. Deleted 2 big apps one being Google Earth 30mb which was on card but when I went to on phone it showed 30 more mb of space. system Panel but only see sd card space and memory not phone space but App 2 SD card and Android System both say 116mb of space. But still I only had 60 something yesterday. If yo uhave Google Earth on SD Card delete it and see if you get 30 mb of phone space back then you can reinstall it but that's weird. But thanks for your reply!

it does more than than just kill tasks...

and task killers are great.. for killing BAD APPS


its the AUTO killers .. and just killing everything...all the time... that causes trouble for your phone.
 
What dan330 said, but it's really a thing to show the system details. Other good ones are Android System Info by Electric Sheep and Elixir.

I'm trying to understand and get on common terms where "phone space" is concerned.

elixir is a great app.. that is free... very freakin powerful. but requires a lot of exploring to understand and use it.

I'm seeing the same thing. How is it I'm able to free up internal storage by deleting apps that are supposedly stored on my sd card?
 
apps that are stored on the sdcard...

not all of it is moved...
only the non-essential part (data, graphics, etc) are moved to the card...
the executable are still on in the phone.. so android can find them and run them.

example: games.. the executable file might be small, around 500kb; but all the data and graphics can be huge, around 9GB.
 
So if I look at an app in the app manager and it says:
Total..............200KB
Application......192KB
Data..............8KB

If I move it to the sd card am I only freeing 8KB of internal memory?
